Job Description

The successful applicant will join our growing and exciting Maritime team as an Engineer: Ports & Coastal , with a focus on technical excellence, innovative thinking and teamwork.  In the process we become global thought leaders in our various fields.  We positively influence the industry and people around us, both locally and on exciting international projects, leveraging the global WSP platform and reach. 

KEY ROLE

The Engineer: Port & Coastal role will include:

•                 Initially, conducting analysis/engineering/design tasks as a team member on coastal and port engineering projects;

•                 Subsequently, leading analysis/engineering/design tasks as a project leader on coastal and port engineering projects

•                 Participation in project and client meetings

•                 Reporting of methods and results

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Pre-feasibility to detailed port & coastal engineering feasibility studies, including designs and reporting.
  • Concept up to detailed port & coastal engineering designs, technical specifications, capital and operational cost estimations.
  • Evaluations and reviews.
  • Preparation of proposals and winning work.
  • Client liaison, managing teams and projects.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • BSc Eng / BEng Civil Engineering degree.
  • Post-graduate masters (MEng/MScEng) qualification in Port & Coastal Engineering is a requirement.
  • 3 – 6 years’ relevant post graduate work experience, all in aspects of Port & Coastal Engineering
  • Minimum Candidate Professional Engineer with ECSA. Registration is highly advantageous
  • Experience in any of the following aspects of Port & Coastal Engineering will be an advantage:
    1. Experience with marine intake and outfall systems, including hydrodynamic on-bottom stability, hydraulic designs, diffuser configuration design and near-field modelling.
    2. Experience with design of coastal structures, e.g. revetments, breakwaters, shore protection and scour protection.
    3. Experience with evaluation of the coastal environment of a specific site, taking into account all local coastal processes (may include site reconnaissance).
    4. Experience in modelling/analysis of coastal processes and beach/nearshore morphology, e.g. to inform development setbacks and/or dredging requirements.
    5. Experience in coastal engineering and associated processes, e.g. assessments of extreme water levels (min/max), structure overtopping and wave loading.
    6. Experience in defining the environmental design conditions and interpretation of environmental parameters.
    7. Translation of numerical modelling results into representative design conditions to establish a basis of design.
    8. Experience in port planning and operations.
  • Concept to detail design and construction drawing production on the type of projects mentioned above, demonstrating a deep understanding of the coastal processes involved in this work.
  • Experience in coastal engineering and other software tools will be an advantage:
        1. AutoCAD Civil3D, Revit
        2. UNIBEST-CL+, XBEACH or similar (shoreline models, storm erosion models)
        3. Modelling software such as SWAN, Deltares Delft-3D and DHI Mike
  • Key competence in digital engineering and computer proficiency using MATLAB / PYTHON to facilitate designs. 
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in using coastal design guidelines and standards, e.g. Rock Manual, CEM, DNV, BS codes, EuroTop.
