Job Description
Key Tasks:
Training & Induction
Deliver and oversee onboarding training for all new starters, ensuring a strong foundation in safety and food hygiene.
Ensure ongoing refresher training is completed and recorded, identify training needs of team.
Standards & Audits
Lead preparations for internal and external audits ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and safety are consistently maintained.
work proactively with kitchen and service teams to maintain excellent hygiene and safety standards aiming to exceed industry benchmarks.
Conduct regular walkarounds and spot checks to observe practices, offer coaching, and address any gaps.
Safety Culture & Coaching
Champion a strong safety culture where all team members, from chefs to supervisors, understand and take ownership of their safety responsibilities.
Offer ongoing coaching and mentoring to managers, chefs and team members to build internal capability and accountability.
Compliance and documentation
Monitor and manage safety documentation including temperature logs, cleaning records, allergen records, risk registers, equipment logging for maintenance
- Participate in health and safety inspections (planned HSE and focused inspections e.g., General HSE, Manual handling, fire & food safety, emergency preparedness etc.).
- Report writing of inspection reports and others where required.
- Develop toolbox talks, safety flashes, safety alerts and SSW (safe systems of work) and support.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Proven administration and computer skills
- A good understanding of health and safety concepts (Hazard identification, fire safety, emergency preparedness) and the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974
- A good level of English, both written and oral including business English
- An interest in the Food, Health, Safety and/or Environmental agenda
- Confident communicator both verbally and written
- Able to build effective relationship with operational teams and contractors
- A confidential demeanour
- Able to work methodically and independently
- Accurate and attention to detail
- Able to use the functions of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Email etc) and other software applications
- Asks for help when unsure
- A natural desire to learn and contribute to workplace safety for all.
Qualifications
- NEBOSH Certificate and level 4 food safety (desired) If not in place already required to commit to programme to gain certification in first two years of employment.
- Proven experience in a health and safety or food safety role within hospitality, contract catering, or a similar fast paced environment.
- Comfortable working with clients and regulatory bodies, including experience supporting or leading EHO visits and audits.
- Strong understanding of HACCP, allergen management plus health and safety legislation relevant to catering operations.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
- Skilled at training, coaching and influencing teams at all levels, from front-line chefs to senior managers.
- Confident using digital compliance tools and systems to manage documentation, monitor performance and drive improvements.
