Job Description

The Indirect Tax Manager will be primarily responsible for monitoring, reconciling and filing global sales taxes, ensuring completeness of all business license & annual report filing requirements, and managing annual property tax compliance. This position requires a very detail focused individual, to ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, good communication skills with an ability to work well with others but also independently.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Review, analyze, and reconcile the sales & use tax return filings and supporting workpapers. This includes supervision of the production of information used to effectively & efficiently generate tax returns, as well as maintaining supporting work papers and files while providing a clear audit trail to source & support documentation. 
  • Manage international sales tax compliance (Canada GST, Int’l VAT, etc.) 
  • Manage the new retail store registration process, including business licenses, sales tax permits, etc. 
  • Manage the preparation of annual property tax filings. 
  • Exemption Certificate maintenance  
  • Manage customer service inquiries related to indirect taxes. 
  • Prepare reconciliations on tax general ledger accounts to verify account balances. 
  • Perform product taxability research and communicate necessary changes as needed. 
  • Own the process of resolving tax notices and assessments from taxing authorities. 
  • Assist in analyzing new sales tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements, and implementing those that impact tax compliance. 
  • Monitor nexus laws and ensure timely and accurate reporting and remittance of all taxes due. 
  • Assist with forecasting quarterly and annual tax balances and payments. 
  • Prepare tax journal entries as required. 
  • Assist with tax research projects as needed. 
  • Assist with indirect tax audits as required. 
  • Preparation and maintenance of annual indirect tax compliance calendar. 
  • Perform other tasks, duties and special projects as needed. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree from an accredited university in accounting or finance 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax (public accounting and/or corporate tax department), including US sales tax & Global VAT/GST systems. 
  • Knowledge of tax related laws and regulations  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office required. 
  • Must be detail oriented and organized. 
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills are important. 
  • Strong analytical skills including data analysis and excel skills, and familiarity using and extracting data from various systems. 
  • Flexible team player that enjoys hands on responsibilities, with an ability to be proactive and a self-starter 
  • Apparel industry and experience with Microsoft D365 or Shopify a plus. 
  • Experience with Avalara a plus. 

Additional Information

Pay Range: $125,000-$135,000/yr
