Job Description

Chemical Engineer Job Responsibilities

Core job responsibilities within the Operations Department at Vorbeck for an Associate Chemical Engineer are to:

  • Perform chemical analysis and physical property testing of materials and products
  • Evaluate current processes and develop improvements to safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Create standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests
  • Coordinate with and provide training to technical staff
  • Assist with environmental, health, and safety compliance
  • Assist with risk assessments and failure modes and effects analyses (FMEA)
  • Oversee and assist with the installation, maintenance, and inspection of equipment and facilities
  • Perform routine calibration and troubleshooting of instruments and control systems
  • Perform process modeling and simulations
  • Research, design, and implement new production processes and the scale-up of existing production processes
  • Assist with the research, design, and implementation of process instrumentation and control systems
  • Create piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), operating instructions and standard operating procedures, and other documentation for production processes
  • Coordinate and perform testing, installation, and commissioning of new and scaled-up production processes
  • Analyze data to develop and refine processes and operations and communicate results of analyses
  • Assist in the development of timelines and budgets

Qualifications

Chemical Engineer Qualifications/Skills

Desired qualifications and skills for an Associate Chemical Engineer are:

  • Demonstrated ability to solve technical and engineering problems
  • Excellent presentation and verbal communication skills and strong technical writing ability
  • Experience with the use of spreadsheet and database software to compile, analyze, and present data
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations
  • Familiarity with process modeling and optimization techniques and software, and process improvement methodologies
  • Ability to execute tasks safely and without direct oversight
  • Knowledge of quality management, quality assurance, and quality control techniques and analytical chemistry techniques

Chemical Engineer Education and Experience

Desired education and experience for an Associate Chemical Engineer are:

  • BSE degree in chemical engineering or a related field
  • Master’s degree in chemical engineering or a related field is a plus
  • Two to five years’ experience in an engineering environment
  • Hands on field engineering experience is a plus
  • Project management experience is a plus
