Job Description

Job Responsibilities

Core job responsibilities within the Operations Department at Vorbeck for a Director, Operations - Chemical Engineer are to:

  • Evaluate current processes and develop improvements to safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Create standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests
  • Program management and communication of accurate and timely information to other senior managers
  • Coordinate with technical staff managers to provide direction and training to operations personnel
  • Lead risk assessments and failure modes and effects analyses (FMEA)
  • Oversee and assist with the installation, maintenance, and inspection of equipment and facilities
  • Perform process modeling and simulations
  • Research, design, and implement new production processes and the scale-up of existing production processes, including process instrumentation and control systems
  • Create process flowsheets, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), operating instructions and standard operating procedures, and other documentation for production processes
  • Coordinate testing, installation, and commissioning of new and scaled-up production processes
  • Analyze data to develop and refine processes and operations and communicate results of analyses
  • Develop project timelines and budgets
  • Oversee environmental, health, and safety compliance

Qualifications/Skills

Desired qualifications and skills for a Director, Operations - Chemical Engineer are:

  • Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems
  • Ability to lead technical teams
  • Excellent presentation and verbal communication skills and strong technical writing ability
  • Experience with data analysis tool and project management software and methodologies
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations
  • Familiarity with process modeling and optimization techniques and software
  • Knowledge of quality management, quality assurance, and quality control techniques and analytical chemistry techniques

Education and Experience

Desired education and experience for a Director, Operations - Chemical Engineer are:

  • BSE degree in chemical engineering or a related field
  • Master’s degree or PhD in chemical engineering or a related field is a plus
  • Five to ten years’ experience in an engineering environment
  • Project management experience
