Company Description

We at Volocopter are pioneers in the development of electrical air taxis that take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We bring Urban Air Mobility to life, by establishing air taxis in addition to current transportation options in megacities globally. Our aim is to offer affordable on-demand air taxi services and save people time by flying them safely to their destination. In 2011 we performed the first-ever piloted flight of a purely electrical multicopter and have since showcased numerous public flights with our full-scale Volocopter (www.volocopter.com).


Job Description

What you will do:

  • Definition of Unmanned Flight ConOps  
  • Implementation in Simulation-based infrastructure   
  • Support validation and derivation of functional requirements 
  • Use case definitions and scenario-based development 
  • Integration of our software framework towards flight tests and demonstration 
  • Definition of an agile software development processes  
  • Pro-active role to support development teams in functional development 
  • Assume responsibility for documentation and verification of the software development in the course of approval by an aviation authority 


What you will need:


  • MSc or PhD in a STEM subject like Mobile Robotics, Autonomous Systems, Unmanned Aerial Systems, Computer Science, Aerospace or related 
  • At least 3 or more years of proven practical experience in industry or academia of unmanned aircraft technology, e.g. flight planning
  • Experience in agile development of Unmanned Aircraft software, e.g. in Matlab Simulink, C/C++, Python 
  • Experience in handling of standard tools for software development (GIT,CI, etc.) and robotic middleware (e.g. ROS) 
  • Practical experience in communication technology 
  • Team Player with excellent communication skills 
  • Can-do mentality 
  • True believer in drone technology and its positive impact 
  • Organizational and implementation power 
  • You have a responsible, initiative and solution-oriented way of working


  • Experience in writing ConOps, esp. in accordance with JARUS/EASA standard 
  • Specific background in simulation software frameworks is a plus 
  • Experience in safety and security critical software development 
  • Exotic language experiences in security and safety domains are always worth a chat 
  • Comprehension of automated verification tools and techniques 
  • Specific comprehension of regulations such as EASA Specific / EASA Certified, U-Space / UTM is a plus 
  • Professional Remote Pilot license (“Kenntnisnachweis”, LuftVO §21d), or experience in model flying or owner of a private/commercial pilot license for conventional manned flight
