We at Volocopter are pioneers in the development of electrical air taxis that take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We bring Urban Air Mobility to life, by establishing air taxis in addition to current transportation options in megacities globally. Our aim is to offer affordable on-demand air taxi services and save people time by flying them safely to their destination. In 2011 we performed the first-ever piloted flight of a purely electrical multicopter and have since showcased numerous public flights with our full-scale Volocopter (www.volocopter.com).

As a continuously growing company, we are working on the transition to an agile work environment, which includes the implementation of the SAFe framework. To support this development, as well as the later continuous improvement, we are searching for an experienced Line Manager to join our team.

Job Description

We are looking for an outstanding and empathic as well as entrepreneurial Line / Skill Manager (m/f/d) with the following responsibilities:

  • Experienced working with agile frameworks (SAFe, LESS)
  • Leads teams up to 50 people in the development projects
  • Identifies gaps in the skillset of the teams and will solve them together with the responsible stakeholders
  • Is responsible for hiring and onboarding of new employees
  • Identifies personal development paths and plans for further development of the employees
  • Plans and oversees trainings in coordination with People & Organisation
  • Demonstrates genuine interest in the team and listens closely to desires, complaints and observations of each employee
  • Encourages the feedback culture
  • Identifies conflicts in the team and solves them
  • Is dedicated to an excellent Volocopter employee journey as the most important task
  • Encourages the sharing of knowledge, experience and trainings in and between teams

In addition to the disciplinary responsibility, the line manager is also a Skill Manager for one of the knowledge clusters: 

  • A/C Architecture and integration (DMU / Simulation/ HMI, Weight, Safety / RAMT, Configuration)
  • System and Equipment Development (System Eng ARP4754, DO254, DO160, EMC/EMI, Avionics, Flight Control System, Data recording, Supplier Management
  • SW development (DAL A-D, DO178, DO330)
  • Structure Development (Design, Stress, Fatigue / DT, Material, Strength Verification)
  • Flight Sciences (Performances, Performance, Stability and control / HQ / Control Laws, Loads, Vibration/Flutter, Noise, Aerodynamics (Rotor), Thermal Analysis)
  • Battery Design (Battery design and verification, Wiring, E-Load)
  • Ground Testing Execution

The Skill Manager responsibility is to train and develop the people of the organisation in this specific skill:  

  • Define best practices, select tools and methods to be applied
  • Define and conduct training sessions
  • Act as an expert in the field for the organisation
  • Be aware of upcoming trends, participate to standardisation or specialist groups for the skill (e.g. EUROCAE)

Qualifications

As a Line Manager, you are the right match for us if you bring the following:

  • You have a track record in international AAA-companies and know how to build and lead top notch (engineering) teams
  • You are experienced in leading in agile set ups as well as using the SAFe framework
  • You are a true people enthusiast and you know the science behind leading people in business
  • You have proven to lead smaller and bigger groups successfully and you are able to motivate teams to their fullest potential
  • You have a clear picture and methodology of leadership and management and you know how to make fair and thinking-forward decisions
  • You are eager to learn every day; therefore, you are on top re. the latest research re. management and leadership
  • You are 100% familiar with organisational theories as well as with individual psychology and entrepreneurial decisions
  • You are open-minded, inclusive and a servant leader
  • You are one of the strongest communicators on earth; being able to communicate in English and one other language

Some requirements as a Skill Manager:

  • Experience in the aviation industry
  • Experience in building and managing training concepts/networks
  • Experience in coaching
