Job Description

As Safety Manager within Volocopter’s formal Safety Management System (SMS) you are the Safety Advocate who demonstrates excellent safety behavior and attitude, follows regulatory practices and rules, recognizes and reports hazards, and promotes effective safety reporting. You coordinate with the individual accountable executives to provide guidance and direction for the planning, implementation, and operation of the Volocopter’s SMS.

You promote safety awareness within the organization and provide SMS-related services to the certificated, non-certificated, and third-party areas of the organization that are included in the SMS and may have delegated responsibilities on behalf of persons holding positions required by regulations. You interact with operational personnel and managers on all levels throughout the organization. As Safety Manager you also foster positive relationships with regulatory authorities, agencies, and product and service providers outside the organization.

Your Tasks:

  • Develop, improve and manage the operation of the safety management system
  • Collect and research safety information in a timely manner
  • Administer any safety-related surveys
  • Monitor and evaluate the results of corrective actions
  • Ensure that risk assessments are conducted (when applicable)
  • Provide safety reports on SMS performance on a periodic basis
  • Monitor the industry for safety concerns that could affect the organization
  • Be involved with actual or practice emergency procedures
  • Be involved in the development and updating of the emergency plan and procedures
  • Ensure safety-related information, including organizational goals and targets, are made available to all personnel through established communication processes
  • Be the main contact person for the regulatory authority for safety issues

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a comparable position covering management systems including compliance monitoring systems and safety management; risk management and the operations of an aviation organization
  • Knowledge of ICAO standards, European requirements, and provisions on safety management
  • Knowledge of safety investigation techniques
  • Knowledge of human factors in aviation
  • Expertise in promoting a positive safety culture within and beyond the organization

  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language
  • Data management, deductive and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent level of professional integrity
