Job Description

As a Senior Battery-Pack Stress Engineer, you will ensure the proper structural design of the battery pack of the Volocopter and its surrounding structure. The battery pack, its internal components and its surrounding structures int the aircraft need to withstand vibrations, impacts and static loads. You work closely with design engineers and testing, manufacturing and quality teams. Working with the battery and aircraft design team, you will develop and optimize the structural elements of the battery system following to the latest industry best practices and aviation certification standards.

Your Tasks:

  • Structural load calculations and assessment (Hand/1D calculations and sensitivity assessment)
  • Structural and thermal stress modelling and assessment (FEA/CFD)
  • Vibration and Fatigue modeling and assessment
  • Crash modeling and assessment
  • Lightweight optimization of structures
  • Generation of documentation following the Design Organization Handbook (Based on part 21J)
  • Coordinate with design engineers to assess design proposals
  • Coordinate with test engineers to validate models’ assumptions/results

Qualifications

  • Hands-on, creative and solution-oriented way of working
  • Experience in composite, thermoplastics and/or metal structures development and optimization
  • Strong experience in structural load assessment for iso/anisotropic materials
  • Experience in composite FEM simulation and validation
  • Masters Degree in area of mechanical engineering, aeronautic structure design or equivalent
  • 5 years proven experience in light weight structural design and stress calculations
  • Experienced in using NX Siemens CAD software (Creo or CATIA are accepted as well)
  • Good writing and speaking skills in English

Good to have:

  • Experience with battery systems
  • Alternatively, experience with CS23/CS27, DO160G
  • Experienced in using FEMAP / FIBRESIM / Star-CCM+ / Simcenter (NASTRAN code) / ANSYS
