Job Description

As a Senior Battery-pack Design Engineer, you will ensure the proper mechanical design of the battery system and its components throughout its lifecycle (from design concept to End-Use-Part). You work closely with the design engineers and testing, manufacturing, and quality teams. Working closely with the team, you will develop and optimize the battery systems’ packaging components by following the latest industry best practices and aviation certification standards.

Your Tasks:

  • Structural load calculations and assessment (Hand/1D calculations and sensitivity assessment). (FEA/CFD is a plus)
    • Structural and thermal stress assessment
    • Vibration and Fatigue assessment
    • Crash and assessment
  • Identify Interfaces and derive loads from each design solution
  • Create 3D CAD models based on calculations and execute release process based on Assurance System
  • Create 2D manufacturing drawings for components, jigs, and assemblies and assist supplier selection and management for their manufacturing
  • Work with engineering suppliers on components and subsystems of the battery system
  • Assist in supplier management and be the focal contact point regarding mechanical aspects of the battery system
  • Assist in design optimization (lightweighting, manufacturability, assembly) activities
  • Lightweight structures definition (Balanced composite layup, hollowed components, morphology studies)
  • Generate designs proposal derived from system requirements
  • Help in generating test plans that increase system knowledge and/or demonstrate requirements compliance
  • Help in generating assembly and/or manufacturing work instructions that ensure design correct functionality
  • Help in defining Inspection protocols
  • Assist in generating/close NCR, Concessions, Part release, Change Request
  • Generation of documentation following the EASA DOA requirements
  • Coordinate with test, prototype and requirements engineers to assess design proposals

Qualifications

  • Hand-on, creative and solution-oriented way of working
  • Ability to demonstrate numerically (calculate) design solutions
  • Experience in composite, thermoplastics and/or metal structures development and optimization
  • Experience in FEM simulation and testing
  • Masters Degree in area of mechanical engineering, aeronautic structure design or equivalent
  • 5 years proven experience in light weight structural design
  • Experienced in using Siemens NX CAD software and Product Lifecycle platform
  • Good writing and speaking skills in English

Good to have:

  • Good knowledge of battery systems and their electro-thermo-mechanical behavior
  • Alternatively experience in aerospace standards and CS23/CS27
  • Experienced in using Siemens NX / FEMAP / FIBRESIM / Star-CCM+ / ANSYS / Simcenter (NASTRAN)
  • Strong experience in System Engineering (TRL, Engineering gates PDR, CDR, TRR, etc)
