We bring Urban Air Mobility to life, by establishing air taxis in addition to current transportation options in megacities globally. In 2011 we performed the first-ever manned flight of a purely electrical multicopter and have since showcased numerous public flights with our full-scale Volocopter (www.volocopter.com).

Job Description

Within a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary core team you are in charge of managing the development and prototyping of Volocopters next generation and its technologies. Reporting to our Chief Engineer Volo Next Generation, you are a key member of the development team located in Oberpfaffenhofen, near Munich.

Your Tasks:

  • Lead and ensure the aircrafts overall design and robustness
  • Co-lead all engineering and technical phases of the project
  •  Strong contribution to the overall aircraft development plan and schedule
  • Allocate, derive and define technical, functional and non-functional requirements
  • Manage cross-functional activities such as weight and balance, performance, aerodynamics, stress analysis, safety, mechanical design, electrical propulsion system, airframe, avionics, etc.  and overarching activities such as manufacturing, operations, costs, maintenance, etc..
  • Lead the overall rotorcraft system architectures of the propulsion system, on-board power system, avionic system and airframe
  • Lead the elaboration and validation of the overall aircraft design
  • Co-Lead the overall aircraft performance and aeromechanic layout and design
  • Manage engineering reviews
  • Lead prototyping and aircraft test activities
  • Manage the manufacturing and assembly of a new category of aircraft
  • Lead work preparation steps for internal and external suppliers
  • You will be the interface to the engineering team and be able to actively create your ideas
  • Assessing, managing all partner and cooperation partner activities in your field
  • Manage new type of technologies around electrical propulsion system and storage system as well as materials

 

 

Qualifications

  • Hands-on and creative attitude on electrical aircraft and its systems
  • Strong experience in systems engineering
  • Educational background as aircraft electrician/mechanic or within electro mobility
  • Minimum 3 years of prototyping experience of vehicles (mechanical, electrical, systems)
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience of vehicles
  • Experienced in using CAD software (Siemens NX preferred)
  • Experience component testing experience
  • Knowledge in flight testing, ideally having piloting experience
  • Knowledge in designing and handling of propulsion systems and energy storage systems (e.g. propulsion batteries)
  • Strong knowledge in mechanical and electrical engineering, manufacturing and assembly of vehicles and their power electronics
  • You are driven and have a self-starter mentality
  • Very good in English (written and spoken), very good German language skills is a benefit
  • Basic knowledge of Design Organization, maintenance and production procedures according to 21J/145/21G
