Job Description

At Viva Energy, we're looking for an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to join our Retail Finance team and play a pivotal role in one of Australia's largest and most dynamic energy and convenience retail businesses.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance & FP&A, this is a highly visible leadership opportunity where you will partner with senior stakeholders across the business and influence key financial and strategic decisions. You will take ownership of critical finance functions including monthly management reporting, statutory reporting, treasury and banking activities, while leading and developing a high-performing finance team, including offshore resources.

This role offers far more than traditional financial control responsibilities. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to strategic planning, drive process improvement initiatives, support business transformation programs, and help shape the future direction of a rapidly evolving organisation. Working closely with senior leaders across Viva Energy Retail and the broader Viva Energy Group, you'll be exposed to complex commercial challenges and play a key role in delivering business growth and performance.

Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Lead the Finance Team
  • Oversee the month-end close process and be across the reporting.
  • Ensure Finance Processes, Procedures & EOM Checklists are complied with.
  • Review & approve general ledger journals
  • Participation in business wide large projects such as M & A Integration & System Implementations
  • Manage offshore provider SLA
  • Actively interface with the frontline management
  • Continuous training and mentoring of the Finance Team
  • Oversee the half year and year end statutory reporting and achieve accuracy, timelines and AASB compliance.
  • Continually review and improve Processes & Procedures
  • Supervision of AR and AP functions including the authorisation of daily banking transactions
  • Liaise with the Parent Group Finance & Tax Teams on Reporting & Compliance
  • Participate in the budgeting & capex management processes.
  • Actively Head of Finance and FP & A in business improvement & other initiatives

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified CA or CPA professional.
  • Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or similar senior finance leadership role or Big 4
  • Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong expertise in financial management, statutory reporting, management reporting, and financial controls.
  • Proven track record of implementing and enhancing best-practice financial systems, processes, and reporting frameworks.
  • Highly developed business partnering and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of an organisation.
  • Commercially astute with the ability to provide meaningful insights and support strategic decision-making.
  • Hands-on, proactive leader who thrives in a dynamic and evolving business environment.
  • Adaptable and flexible, with the ability to respond effectively to changing priorities and business needs.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, analytical capability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Committed to continuous improvement and driving operational excellence.
