The Claims division provides the trading and operations group with the necessary knowledge and expertise in contract language interpretation and transportation costs. The specialist knowledge, which has been developed over many years in the trading industry, provides the company with prompt, effective solutions. The success of Vitol’s Claims division is further strengthened by having formed strong, commercially sound relationships with trading and shipping executives and companies located around the globe. We are responsible for the development, evaluation, negotiation and settlement of marine transportation claims for costs associated with moving product between the points of origin and the final destination.
Job Description
- Monitoring of completed vessel movements in order to update budgets and create demurrage and secondary receivable claims in a timely manner
- Prepare receivable claims under relevant terms and conditions using detailed analysis and understanding of Charter Party and Trading contracts
- Review payable claims for validity and accuracy to determine if they are consistent with the contracts, time logs, and operators notes. Dispute/negotiate inaccurate claims
- Communicate and negotiate settlements with external business partners to achieve the best resolution for Vitol
- Update budgets in Vitol’s trade capture system and ensure all claim communication is filed in Vitol’s electronic filing system
- Communicate with operators, traders, and commercial analysts of changes in budgeting/PNL loss and advise reason changes
- Notify traders, operators and contracts when demurrage and laytime clauses in contracts leads to loss of profit or opportunities
- Notify Chartering when claim clauses in charter parties results in ambiguity, loss of profit and settlement difficulties with marine transportation owners
- Monitor settlement of claims and aging receivables, following up with counterparties regularly.
- Support commercial team for any requests regarding demurrage and claims costs
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years experience in demurrage / post deal analysis
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Able to quickly learn new skills and grasp new concepts
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong desire for personal learning and sharing of skills with others
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry representatives to create an environment of equitable resolution of demurrage issues
- Ability to effectively influence and negotiate prudent settlement
- Lead business opportunities to improve demurrage results and overall exposure
