The Opportunity

We are looking for versatile, curious, and energetic Software Engineers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale. As a Visa Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of a multi-functional development team inventing, designing, building, and testing software products that reach a truly global customer base. Essential Functions

  • A thought leader who is instrumental in hiring, managing, and retaining top class engineers.
  • Responsible for mentoring and grooming teams to deliver high quality work.
  • Manage various stakeholders such as PD, RM, Performance Engineering, Operations, and Infrastructure teams.
  • Set high standard goals for engineers in alignment with organizational goals, and help teams achieve them.
  • Oversee daily activities of Release Engineering and DevOps. This includes creating environments on physical and virtual or container platforms, troubleshooting OS and third-party application issues, deploying, installing, configuring proprietary software, monitoring hardware usage and performance as it applies to the environments, and assisting in gathering of metrics to forecast future growth needs.
  • Participate in strategic discussions and work closely with leadership teams to implement defined strategies.
  • Lead the Developer Productivity Team's strategic efforts - working on all three layers of the stack related to infrastructure, middleware, and continuous integration and delivery frameworks.
  • Provide third level technical support to technical teams within Visa to support the implementation of modifications and new solutions.
  • Support the implementation of new programs and subprograms, as well as enhancements, modifications, and corrections to existing software.
  • Troubleshoot and conduct root cause analysis to address routine to moderately complex reporting issues with accuracy or performance.
  • Operate as a technical expert on infrastructure projects pertaining to virtualization, systems management, design, and architecture. Perform performance analysis and optimization, monitoring and problem resolution, upgrade planning and execution, and process creation and documentation.
  • Analyze workloads and application inventories to determine optimal utilization patterns. Ensure infrastructure technologies are adequately tested and integrated with other Infrastructure and Application Services. Build and manage development, test, integration, performance, and non-production environments.
  • Responsible for all types of vulnerability remediation in non-production environments.
  • Define and evolve Build and Release best practice by working within teams and educating other stakeholder teams. These best practices should support traceability and auditability of change.
  • Ensure continuous availability of various tools supporting SCM and Release Management including Source Control, Continuous Integration, and Change Management.
  • Lead cross-functional co-located teams in design, development, and implementation of enterprise scalable features related to enabling higher developer productivity, environment monitoring and self-healing, and facilitating autonomous delivery teams.

We do not expect that any single candidate would fulfill all of these characteristics. For instance, we have exciting team members who are really focused on building scalable systems but did not work with payments technology or web applications before joining Visa.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
10+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications
12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
1. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field required. Masters Degree or other advanced degree preferred
2. 12+ years of relevant experience with 3+ years experience leading engineering teams
3. Expertise with the Java 8 platform or higher
4. Expertise with Spring, Vertx, Akka framework or similar
5. Experience building microservices, specifically with HTTP, REST, JSON and XML, Mobile apps
6. Experience with a Relational database and MSSQL database
7. Experience in messaging system and distributed technology.
8. Experience in React or Advanced JavaScript is desirable.
9. Experience in GIThub, Maven, Jenkins or such build automation tools
10. Experience in Containerized applications – Docker and Kubernetes
Strong analytical, problem solving and communication/articulation skills.
11. Proven experience delivering highly scalable and available production systems

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 176,400.00 to 256,000.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
