We are looking for talented, Versatile, proactive, energetic, and passionate Sr Staff Software engineer who embrace challenges and are proven problem solvers. As a Visa Sr. Staff Software Engineer in Alternate Payments team, you will lead the team technically on the range of projects in Alternate payments and Payment Value added services domain. These include the full-stack development of backend APIs, Services, back-end batching applications, and highly functional, secure, scalable, and robust web front-end user interfaces. As the lead of a dynamic development team, you will be involved in the invention, design, construction, and testing of software products that cater to a truly global audience. Your work will significantly contribute to the creation of powerful payment technology, allowing you to witness firsthand how your efforts are shaping the digital future of financial transactions. As a guiding light in technology and innovation, you will lead the release strategy, ensuring every delivery aligns with our business strategy, particularly focusing on innovative alternative payment acceptance and integrated commerce management. Your role will be vital in setting the gold standard for engineering excellence, playing a central part in the architecture, design, and launch of the next wave of enterprise FinTech innovation.
Responsibilities:
As a Lead, you're responsible for understanding the 'big picture', linking individual projects to the organization's goals, communicating this vision to the team, fostering a sense of ownership among team members, and managing multiple project components efficiently and effectively.
To excel in this role, you need to possess a strong foundation in computer science fundamentals. This includes a thorough understanding of algorithms, data structures, and principles of software design.
Has extensive knowledge in designing complex, high-availability, resilient systems using computer science fundamentals and advanced architectures.
Write efficient, scalable and maintainable code, particularly in high-priority or complex areas. Although more focused on architecture, hands-on coding remains an essential function.
Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks, improve scalability and optimize infrastructure to handle large scale operations.
Transform functional and non-functional requirements into a robust, efficient, and effective design or process.
Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to define and guide the technical strategy, roadmaps, and initiatives. Help the organization stay ahead of technological trends.
Offers technical direction for project alignment with organizational strategy.
Demonstrates technical acumen, eagerness to learn new technologies, initiative, results-focus, and strong communication skills for effective interaction.
Establish and enforce coding standards, architectural best practices, and design patterns. Conduct design and code reviews to maintain code quality.
Guide and mentor junior and mid-level engineers, helping them develop their technical skills and progress their career.
Promote collaboration across teams, disciples, ensuring that the technical approach is consistent and optimal across the organization.
Promote and contribute to culture of innovation by exploring and integrating new technologies, tools, and methodologies.
Lead large initiatives, spearheading key companywide or cross team technical initiatives, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and meeting quality expectations.
Capable of managing engineering tasks throughout the project's implementation.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
• 10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 7 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 4 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
• 10+ years of hands-on experience and deep knowledge/expertise in software product development of following technologies/frameworks: Java, J2EE, Spring framework, Vertx, Kafka, RDBMS, Kubernetes, Jenkins and Containers based Backend REST APIs Applications.
•7+ years of experience in designing/architectural horizontally scalable, multi-tenant backend application
• The ability to develop and utilize Application Program Interfaces (APIs), RESTful API design, protocols, and tools for building software applications that specify how software components should interact and are used when programming graphical user interface (GUI) components.
• Proficiency in full-stack web development using a variety of technologies such as Java, Spring Framework, Hibernate, J2EE, JDBC, C#, XML, SQL, PL/SQL, C++ or Ruby. This knowledge extends to front-end technologies such as HTML, ReactJS, Redux, AngularJS, CSS, and JavaScript. This skill set is utilized in product development, including the enhancement and extension of product capabilities and features.
• Proficient in micro-services, a software architecture composing complex applications from small, scalable services.
• Efficiently divides time between various responsibilities such as active programming tasks, design, coordination, mentoring, project management, and potentially leading these activities.
• Experience in deployment and distribution lifecycle with automated and scalable CI/CD tools including Jenkins, Git, Jira, Maven, Stash.
• Understanding of security principles, specifically in the areas of authentication and authorization.
• Understanding of the systems integration process, which involves the combination of independently created components or subsystems and the resolution of any issues that arise during their interaction.
• Knowledge of and the ability to use database software (e.g., applications, web-based applications, information systems) to maintain, modify, and output data.
• Experience with third-party libraries and APIs.
• Proven skills in troubleshooting and identifying the underlying causes in complex, interconnected systems.
• A proactive individual who can handle new technologies, tight schedules, and multiple projects without being overwhelmed.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, including strong interpersonal and presentation skills, with a proven ability to influence others and communicate effectively.
• Experience in gathering and refining requirements.
• Proficiency in software design, development, and systems integration.
• Expertise in creating design documentation.
Additional Information
Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 147,400.00 to 213,800.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
