Job Description
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY RESULTS AREA
- Draft, negotiate and review a broad range of commercial contracts and other legally binding documents. This also includes development of templates and standard documents or adapting U.S. and CEMEA Hub documents to local requirements
- Providing reviews of new business and products and solutions initiatives and assessment of applicable regulatory requirements
- Advising on arrangements with partners for product development initiatives and other arrangements including drafting and negotiating relevant agreements
- Where required, coordinate and supervise outside counsels for timeliness, cost-effectiveness, and excellence of service and work product
- Monitor regulatory developments and advise teams in SSA sub-region and CEMEA HQ about applicable legal requirements, their implications and compliance strategies as well as assisting with regulatory filings
- Assisting relevant functions with approval of internal and external communications and presentations
- Some travel may be required
- Role to be located in Visa office in Lagos, Nigeria
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
KEY COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS
a. Law degree minimum requirement
b. Minimum 9 years PQE with an international law firm or a multinational organization
c. Ability to work cross-functionally within the organization to implement projects
d. Strong communication skills
e. Excellent written and verbal English is required, French would be advantageous (but not essential)
f. Strong contract drafting skills
g. Excellent organisation skills
h. Generalist and commercial lawyer
i. Experience in banking, information technology and payment industry advantageous (but not essential)
j. Experience working in a US, multinational, highly matrix organisation is preferred
k. Have a global mindset and the ability to work well in a dynamic and deadline-oriented environment
l. Must be able to work independently and interface with different level stakeholders with little or no supervision, but also be a good team player
m. Excellent legal analytical skills with the ability to integrate legal advice and business knowledge, while providing balanced advice regarding risks and benefits
