Job Description
The VisaNet Integrated Payment (VIP) Product Development organization is responsible for software development, platform engineering, quality assurance and production support of the world’s largest and most reliable global payments engine. The VIP system supports transaction authorization processing for Visa's worldwide consumer credit and debit products, as well as a large suite of commercial products. Every day during the busiest hours, the VIP system processes thousands of transactions per second across multiple, geographically diverse operational centers.
The successful candidate will lead a team responsible for the design, software development, implementation, and support of the VIP authorization system. These applications help Visa's constituents deploy services and programs benefiting merchants, processors, banks, and cardholders worldwide. VIP applications are at the heart of Visa's core payment services, and the technology initiatives undertaken by this organization have a direct impact on the global payments market.
We are seeking a skilled and seasoned leader with a strong record of accomplishment that possesses the ability to develop functional knowledge and be a strong proponent of software development disciplines. You will combine a strong technical and management background with the ability to mentor and engage staff across the entire VIP Product Development organization.
Essential Functions:
- Take a leadership role in managing a team of software engineers, and production support ensuring that staff are fully engaged, focused, satisfied, and productive.
- Be responsible for the VIP authorization system production environment. Be quality focused with a keen eye to deliver quality and sustainability – driving others to do the same. Work with the team to ensure that the right processes, tools, and metrics are in place.
- Ensure that our production systems are always available and provide whatever effort is required to achieve this absolute objective. You must deliver software and systems to the highest levels of security at Visa.
- Help to define schedule for rolling out software releases in production environment. Instill best practices including adherence to the golden rules for all production changes. Ensure changes are monitored, verified, and validated, without any negative impact to the existing processes and clients.
- Provide guidance to engineers with a focus on quality and timeliness.
- Manage projects, taking absolute ownership with end-to-end software development planning, resource management, and communications.
- Instill a culture that works toward the highest standards in software development lifecycle methodology while ensuring that business requirements are understood and adhered to
- Create an environment, through example, where the individuals on your team feel free to communicate openly, excel with their partners, act decisively, are motivated and inspired, and collaborate well.
- Work closely with technical subject matter experts and industry professionals to help determine long-term technology strategy for areas of responsibility.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- 10+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- 12+ years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
- 10+ years of proven IT leadership experience
- 5+ years of recent experience managing a software development team of at least 8 professionals where you are skilled at mentoring and motivating staff, communicating goals, and driving to results.
- Experience with IBM's high availability, high volume TPF (Transaction Processing Facility) environment is highly preferred
- Solid understanding of software development methodology practices, and a proven history of deploying those practices to ensure successful execution against technology initiatives
- Knowledge of card payment services processing is highly preferred, other IT management roles in financial services industry companies are also highly preferred
Additional Information
Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 176,900.00 to 256,500.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
