Job Description

VAS - Mobile Enablement Platform is seeking Staff Release Engineer to join our team, with a focus on supporting our release engineering functions. This role is integral to our software development process and will involve developing, managing, troubleshooting releases from commit to production. 
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, a deep understanding of software development lifecycles, and a commitment to collaborative problem solving and quality product delivery.


Essential Functions
• Handle the daily responsibilities of supporting the build and release needs of agile scrum teams.
• Assist in scheduling and implementing changes to the build / release / version-control processes required to enforce and apply build and release engineering best practices
• Provide guidance to cross-team and team members in release best practices and procedures
• Support all pre-production, managed environments for middleware services and applications
• Work with cross functional, geographically distributed teams to provide 24X7 deployment support across multiple non-production environments
• Responsible for deploying code and other proactive maintenance activities to keep the services up and running
• Responsible for owning a specific deployment problems and provide active coordination between various groups including internal and external vendor support groups in resolving a specific problem
• Responsible for working with Security, Operations, Development Operations, and other teams to understand changes to the existing production environment on an ongoing basis and for environment support
• Preserve and maintain service availability, performance, integrity, capacity and security.
• Participate and determine root cause for service failure and support escalation
• Provide appropriate feedback to leads about the progress and timeline related to specific deployment problem
• Maintain and suggest improvements to the simple deployment scripts and tools
• Participate in the decision making of success or failure of applications systems to be deployed in production
• Champion and Evangelize the vision for the CM and Release Strategy
• Update documentation that communicates standards and best practices of the release engineering team
• Implement metrics, Success Factors and Key Performance Indicators for the process and the team

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelors Degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD
• 6+ years experience in Software Engineering, Tools Engineering and/or Configuration Management
• 6+ years experience in continuous integration and continuous deployment
• Strong familiarity with SCMs, Git ,Subversion experience highly desired
• Extensive experience in Unix/Linux administration and Bash Scripting
• Advanced level expertise in one or more scripting languages, such as Python ( Preferable) , Java ( Preferred), Ruby
• Experience with System Management automation tools like Ansible & Chef
• Experience in automating release and build processes
• Advanced knowledge in Maven and the ability to troubleshoot Maven related issues in Java based projects
• Advanced knowledge with one or more build management tools (Jenkins, Cloudbees )
• Experience with Java web environments (JBoss, and Tomcat) with sound knowledge of Webservers, Application Servers, Client-Server Architectures
• Experience with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Graphana Dashboards
• Experience in cloud technologies and services with Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.
• Experience with Repository Management systems like Artifactory, Nexus
• Exposure to MEAN Stack
• Complete understanding of the software development life-cycle and agile software development methodologies
• Proficiency in managing multiple responsibilities and priorities in a fast-paced setting.
• Demonstrates a willingness and adaptability to engage with a diverse range of technologies.
• Outstanding abilities in analysis, troubleshooting, and clear, effective communication.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 119,100.00 to 172,600.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
