Job Description

Visa U.S.A. Inc., a Visa Inc. company, needs a Sr. Data Scientist (multiple openings) in Foster City, CA to:

  • Provide leadership and support in identifying, implementing, and managing new data tools and processes, relevant to data science.
  • Provide technical product and business support for development of new platforms, tools for data science built using both on-prem and cloud technologies.
  • Partner with technology on a quarterly planning cycle and support management with relevant metrics to evaluate performance, stability, and reliability of various tools.
  • Improve Infrastructure efficiency by analyzing logs of queries, tuning settings, translating queries if required.
  • Script reviews for best practices, educating user base and building training assets for beginner and intermediate users.
  • Provide policy guidance and administration of data science tools including git, ETL schedulers, Spark to ensure optimum utilization and efficiency.
  • Manage file transfer applications to optimize the data ingestion and sharing processes with partners for sensitive data and organize data sets to optimize run time of routine queries.
  • Increase consistency of tool usage by developing guidance for standard toolsets for specific data science applications and sharing with user community.
  • Track issues at their respective geographic locations to provide data scientists support in their time zones.
  • Responsible for the technical coordination of application development project deliverables that include architecture, design, and software development for proof of concepts.
  • Interact with business units to define requirements, modifications, and use cases to utilize in designing appropriate solutions at scale, documentation, and sharing.
  • Coordinate design activities and testing frameworks, and ensure technology decisions are business and data driven.
  • Position reports to the Foster City, CA office and may allow for partial telecommuting.

Qualifications

  • Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering or related field followed by 8 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a data scientist or software engineer-related occupation.
  • Software development with one programming language and version control system;
  • SQL for extracting and aggregating data;
  • Unix, Shell or Python scripting;
  • SFTP; and
  • Scheduling.

Additional Information

Worksite: Foster City, CA

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Travel Requirements:  This position does not require travel.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is $186,846.00 to $231,400.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
