Staff Software Engineer

The Work itself:

·        Design code and systems that touch 40% of the world population while influencing Visa’s internal standards for scalability, security, and reusability

Essential Functions:

·        Develops enhancements and modifications to existing software and develops extensible code that complies with design specifications and meets security best practices.

·         Implements automation to improve effectiveness and efficiencies of systems and tools and supports development and implementation of new automation.

·        Engages with product engineering teams and product owners during code/design reviews, regular meetings, on-call rotations, and incident responses throughout product development and operations cycles.

·        Leverages advanced knowledge of systems/platforms and telemetry analyses to propose isolated improvements in code, processes, and designs to more effectively deliver on customer/business objectives.

Basic Qualifications:
• 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2
years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD,
MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work
experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 4 or more
years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD,
MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD
• Master's degree in Math, Science, Engineering, or Computer Science,
Information Systems or related field AND minimum three (3) years of
experience in a directly related field. OR Minimum eight (8) years of directly
related experience.
• Develop high-volume, low-latency applications for mission-critical systems. The candidate should have proven hands-on software development experience in C/C++ and Java.
• Strong proficiency in C++ on either Linux or Unix, working knowledge of the standard library, STL containers, and algorithms, good understanding of C/C++ memory management.
• Strong object-oriented concepts and analysis (polymorphism and dynamic binding, and C++ specific notions, such as friend classes). and design using common design patterns.
• Familiarity with language tools, such as Valgrind. Profound insight of core Java (class loading, memory management, transaction management...), experience in the Spring Framework.
• Excellent knowledge of relational databases and NoSQL databases, and messaging systems like IBM MQ and Apache Kafka.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 112,500.00 to 146,200.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
