Job Description
Role: This is a pivotal senior role responsible for leading Visa’s EU Affairs team, driving strategy and engagement in Brussels.
· The role entails shaping, owning, and driving a forward-looking strategy to en sure EU regulatory/policy frameworks are conducive to a fair, competitive, innovative, and successful operating environment for Visa's current and future business.
· This position will be responsible for an established but fast-growing
Brussels based team.
· The role is based in Brussels full-time, there will be occasional travel.
· Be a key leader who is driving strategic ownership and initiating execution day to day of a pro-active short/medium/long term Government Engagement strategy in Brussels on a broad range of EU issues, including designing and executing strategic campaigns, and identifying strategic opportunities for Visa to advance its long-term goals.
· Have experience managing a dynamic, growing Brussels based team while fostering an open, very collaborative, and high performing culture and ensuring alignment of strategic objectives and outcomes of the team with the wider regional European Government Engagement team and global objectives.
· Are experienced in owning, managing, and continuing to build long term trust-based dialogues with senior lawmakers, government officials, regulators, and policy makers in Brussels, whilst enhancing Visa’s reputation and competitive position.
· Will anticipate and addresses issues and opportunities facing Visa in a rapidly evolving and ambiguous environment with a combination of political and business acumen. Be comfortable in leading the development of associated strategies.
· Are seasoned and confident working closely day to day with the most senior company leadership across functions both in the Europe region and globally, acting as a trusted strategic advisor on policy subject matter and managing their engagement externally in policy matters where appropriate.
· Have the ability and willingness to play a key role to develop strategic responses on a wide range of topics, working closely with key leaders and subject matter experts across the company both in Europe and globally will be very critical. Always being cognisant of potential global and local implications of issues and closely coordinate their management with regional and global colleagues as necessary.
· Ensuring there are well-articulated succinct assessments of developments in the policy and regulatory landscape which highlight immediate risks and opportunities but also emerging trends that can affect the business in the medium-long term. Where appropriate include actionable recommendations and engagement strategies which are fully aligned with commercial objectives to drive positive business impact.
· Promote Visa’s reputation and profile where appropriate be confident speaking at external events, parliament/legislative hearings, industry conferences, association committees and roundtables.
· Are experienced owning and managing multiple complex projects and take pride in strong execution with a flexible and positive attitude.
· Manage relevant budgets.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
• Proven and significant experience 14 years + in regulatory/ government; law
firm; consultancy; in-house
• Prior exposure to financial services/retail and payment industry preferred.
• Strategic with a positive, proactive, team player attitude, who can build strong
relationships with colleagues across business functions.
• A track record of leading and developing people in team environment with an
ability to attract, hire and train top talent.
• Strong organisational, project management, and problem-solving skills; ability
to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic environment is key.
• Strong communicator with the ability to synthesise information and offer
recommendations/solutions and be comfortable in advising senior leadership
globally.
• Law, Economy or Political Science degree; post graduate studies preferred.
