The Director, Data Lifecycle Capabilities, is responsible to contribute to the build out of Visa’s data lifecycle capability by providing best in class technology, tools and solutions to data owners and stewards. This individual must be able to work across functions, business units, regions and I deep collaboration with Global Data Office staff to identify best practices and areas of opportunity. Experience with data engineering, Technology platforms, tooling with proven ability to build new capabilities, drive organizational impact and act as change agent critical to success.

This role will be responsible for championing the effort in driving and maturing a robust Data Management capability at Visa.

Primary responsibilities

•    Champion the effort in driving and maturing a robust Data Management capability at Visa
•    Maintain a strong foundation of data lifecycle management capabilities, embedded into key platforms to strengthen Visa’s data lifecycle capabilities
•    Contribute to the design, build out and maintenance of best in class platforms, tools and capabilities leveraging AI/ML to support data owners, stewards and users growing demand for intelligent & insightful data lifecycle management. 
•    Lead the definition, development and ongoing management & evolution of an integrated data management ecosystem
•    Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on implementation and maintenance of a Vendor provided Enterprise Data Catalog capability
•    Deliver enterprise data capabilities, including but not limited to, capabilities to improve quality, lifecycle management, and analysis solutions
•    Design, implement, and oversee suitable processes and system capabilities to maintain a comprehensive data inventory and catalog
•    Create solutions for managing data lifecycle and lineage of data assets through analyzing, developing, and deploying an enterprise data catalog that addresses data lineage in support of privacy, security, regulatory, legal objectives in alignment with Visa’s policies and standards
•    Conduct business process analysis, needs, assessments, and leads design sessions/user story workshops to align solutions with business needs
•    Lead and performing interviews of complex areas with business and technical experts to maintain accurate baseline data inventory 
•    Turn data into action through rolling up complex issues across multiple business areas and developing solutions to address 
•    Contribute to the development of enterprise-level technology solutions, leveraging automation, AI and ML techniques 
•    Oversee systems and capabilities under development and ensuring proper level of documentation in place and maintained 
•    Work closely with Data Lifecycle Management Partners to ensure business challenges are properly addressed through sustainable solution/ approach
•    Partner with business/technical staff to diagnose issues and create improvement suggestions
•    Serve as a SME for critical data project(s), mapping data elements, ensuring appropriate metadata is captured, and rules are defined for critical data elements
•    Leverage large data sets to provide insight-driven decision-making support for strategic initiatives around viewing insights

 

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD


Preferred Qualifications:
• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
• 3+ years of metadata management experience, with a particular focus in the data, technology and/or operations space highly preferred and experience in designing and developing taxonomies, data classifications, governance of catalogue controls (flagging, correction, and workflow)
• Knowledge of Industry frameworks and Best Practices (e.g., DCAM (Data Capability Assessment Model), CDMC)
• Experience with data warehousing, business intelligence (BI), data governance, data architecture, data integration, data classification, data strategy, data quality management, data security and privacy, metadata management, data standards, regulatory compliance, and enterprise architecture frameworks
• Experience working to uplift and mature data lifecycle management capabilities, policies definition, controls and frameworks
• Ability to work effectively within a large, matrixed organization
• Excellent problem-solving skills with track record in synthesizing complex information to produce impactful management information and support informed decision making (risk/reward, cost/benefit tradeoffs)
• Business acumen and understanding of the evolving regulatory environment
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and sustain relationships across levels and role types, influences and collaborates with all levels, functions and geographies
• Superior communication and problem-solving skills with a passion to get things done, learn and inspire peers and business partners to uplift skills and capabilities
• Knowledge and understanding of risk management practice (e.g., experience in identifying, assessing, treating, and monitoring risks)
• Self-starter, works independently, and thrives on driving execution and delivering results
• 10 + years relevant work experience
• Bachelor’s Degree (Data Science, Computer Science, Economics or Business preferred)
• Ability to understand issues, both strategic and operational levels and recommend solutions
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, clear thinking and organizational skills
• Sector Experience: Payment processing/payment services, Financial services (within a regulated environment), Regulated industry, Technology/financial technology

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 163,800.00 to 213,000.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
