Job Description
The Senior Director of Strategy, Operations and Business Development plays a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of the Visa Canada business and works hands-on with the Country Manager, leadership team and business functions to drive business planning, strategic initiatives, business development and operational oversight. The role is highly visible across the market and will have broad reach into a variety of teams within Canada. The ideal candidate must have the ability to gain deep subject matter depth on a multitude of topics on short notice and be skilled at the synthesis of multiple sources of information (qualitative and quantitative) to create real and actionable insights for leadership. He or she must stay in front of innovation trends in the payments industry and be able to develop an independent point of view on topics in the face of uncertainty and imperfect information.
Best-suited candidates will be a persuasive, inspiring, and clear communicator with high emotional intelligence as well as being analytical, self-motivated, and able to collaborate well with others from a diversity of backgrounds. The position requires the ability to apply strong analytical and critical thinking skills to solve business problems, and quickly arrive at recommendations that drive corporate priorities. This role reports to the VP, Head of Strategy, Operations & Business Development.
Responsibilities
Lead the annual strategic planning process and development of long-range growth plan
Lead key strategic initiatives for the market
Develop and execute Business Development strategy for the market to attract and win new partnership deals
Analyze VisaNet data, market reports and benchmarks to identify performance gaps and improvement opportunities.
Collaborate with various Visa product and sales teams to manage and track the implementation of strategic initiatives and operational functions.
Support functional teams by identifying priorities and implementing necessary strategies to achieve financial year target while conducting performance management for key business volume targets
Monitor, analyze and develop strategic responses to competitors strategies
Conduct analysis to identify business and operational opportunities and risks and articulate recommendations to local, regional and global senior management teams
Own and maintain executive level management reporting: monthly dashboards & scorecard, initiative pipeline, strategic initiative evaluation, key corporate events and client engagement surveys
Lead and develop talent, manage team of direct reports
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD
Preferred Qualifications:
- 15 or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience
- MBA or relevant graduate degree from top-tier institution or similar academic experience is preferred
- Demonstrated senior level experience in corporate and business strategy / management consulting roles with proven project deliveries and expertise in consulting methodologies
- Excellent analytical skill set with ability to think strategically, ability to frame customers opportunity in financial terms, challenge the status quo, and provide recommendations
- Exposure to retail banking and/or payment card industry and/or merchant retail business is a plus
- Excellent project management skills given that this role involves managing multiple projects with multiple stakeholders simultaneously
- Excellent presentation and communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to comprehend and convey complex analytics and technical information
- Knowledge of data analytics and financial modelling methodologies and tools and the use of data insights for business growth in a digital and technology-driven environment
- Have an entrepreneurial approach and vision, proactive self-starter seeking initiatives to advance
- Technology/Digitally-savvy and an understanding of consumer economics/behaviour, trends and applications
- Curiosity & willingness to learn and develop as a professional – high levels of integrity and business ethics
- Team oriented, collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible, able to work effectively in matrixed organization
