Job Description
Position Summary
Visa's Crypto Product Team is responsible for identifying new product opportunities that exist within the emerging crypto and blockchain network landscape, creating strategies that define Visa's participation in those opportunities, and delivering the capabilities required to capture those opportunities. The success of many crypto product opportunities at Visa depends on the proper usage of advanced cryptographic primitives that are often combined in a unique way to address customer pain points. This results in custom-made, original solutions that are highly secure and scalable based on strong principles of cryptography, distributed systems, and privacy-enhancing technologies.
The Director of Cryptographic Solutions position will focus on identifying, designing, and working with technology counterparts to create such product opportunities from a deep technical product standpoint. The effective creation & delivery of such products requires an in-depth knowledge of cryptography in conjunction with business objectives modeling and software architecture design.
Responsibilities
Deliver tailored crypto and blockchain network solutions for a wide variety of Visa’s partners including banks, fintechs, merchants, central banks, RTP networks and blockchain network ecosystem participants
Responsible for managing the cryptography features product roadmap for Visa’s crypto product solutions and collaborating with key stakeholders across the strategy, risk, research, and engineering organizations
Engage with clients to clearly understand & model customer needs and requirements for innovative payment, loyalty and identity solutions
Lead experts across crypto research & engineering functions to build a detailed architecture of the system that meets business and client requirements
Lead coordination across product managers, research, and engineering teams to define & prioritize development milestones (PoC, MVP, pilot) & scope the resources needed to at every step to bring the ideas to life
Work closely with the extended Crypto business team to scale emerging crypto product lines from initial proof of concept through go-to-market execution that spans pricing, strategy, deal structuring, and client support
Build strong internal relationships with business partners—including the product, legal, and government engagement teams
Serve as an applied cryptography subject matter expert internally and externally, leading training for internal teams and educating clients and partners
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD
- 5+ years of industry experience in designing/developing client-driven innovative crypto solutions
- 2+ years of cross-functional leadership experience between business & technical/engineering functions
Preferred Qualifications
- 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD in computer science/engineering or similar fields
- Deep knowledge of cryptography & blockchain principles, preferably with a strong track record of academic publications
- Good understanding of financial & payment systems concepts such as banking, fractional reserves, cross-border payments, payment authorization, clearing & settlement.
- Passionate about payments and cryptocurrency and driven by opportunities to scale new products and businesses
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and creativity to find new opportunities and anticipate how cryptocurrencies could impact payments.
- Possess significant functional knowledge of the cryptocurrency ecosystem and players involved, including in-depth knowledge around permissionless blockchain technology as well as a deep understanding of existing retail payment solutions
- Expertise in explaining complex concepts and technologies to a broad audience of external and internal partners
- Advanced communication skills with the ability to influence across all levels of an organization
Additional Information
Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
Travel Requirements: This position requires travel -10 -20% of the time or as needed.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 147,400.00 to 191,700.00 USD, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
