Job Description

The Senior Director, Strategy & Operations, US Government Engagement will be a key member of the U.S. Government Engagement (USGE) team and will be part of the Leadership Team (LT).  Reporting to the Senior Vice President of USGE, this Washington, DC-based position will work closely with the Government Engagement team across the region as well as colleagues in other business functions and geographies. The successful candidate will develop and implement strategies that maximize business impact through consistent alignment with local, regional, and global priorities.

Main Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with the SVP and USGE team members to coordinate overall GE strategy and operations.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert and go-to resource for USGE perspective on Visa business strategy, product capabilities, and policy trends.
  • Lead USGE’s participation in the development and production of compelling content for government/client-facing presentations and thought leadership materials.
  • Facilitate cross-functional coordination for regulatory or policy response requests, work closely with Global Policy, Legal, Risk, and Compliance colleagues at the country, regional, and global levels. This includes coordinating USGE’s response to quarterly internal risk updates, audits, updates to investor relations, quarterly Q&A documents, among other deliverables.
  • Drive strategic initiatives with trade groups, including customized research projects, thought leadership, and campaign programs related to the value of payments.
  • Own strategic and day-to-day relationship with Financial and People Business Partners for all matters related to Budget, Personnel, and HC.
  • Partner with SVP on planning and executing all team training and professional development activities as well as employee engagement.
  • People management responsibilities to lead a team of two.

Strategy

  • Maintain and enhance management tools (e.g. Dynamics) to ensure timely and efficient reporting of regulatory developments.
  • Lead on all annual planning processes (AOP) for budget and goals, as well as tracking on a quarterly basis progress of team goals and scorecard metrics.
  • Support the GE team to execute strategic collaboration/partnership opportunities with relevant internal business functions.
  • Provide strategic guidance and project leadership on key business initiatives.
  • Work closely and in coordination with the global GE Strategy & Ops team.
  • Manage thoughtful preparation and on-time delivery of executive-quality decks and briefing materials. These include executive engagements with policymakers and regulators, meetings with government and other stakeholders, executive speaking events, as well as any internal business/market reviews, client facing events including but not limited to VPF, NALM, Community events, etc.

Operations

  • Continuously review and enhance USGE tools and processes. Share and apply best practices, maximizing performance, and elevating productivity in-market.
  • Actively facilitate enhanced communication among USGE, Global Policy, Global and Regional Government Engagement colleagues, as well as with key stakeholder functions such as Legal, Communications, Regulatory Affairs, Risk, and Compliance.
  • Lead planning and logistics for all internal and external events like Congressional baseball, QBRs, volunteering activities, Innovation pop-ups among others
  • Develop framework and protocols for managing Visa external consultants to drive results and maximize impact of engagements to advance Visa’s policy agenda.
  • Manage / lead regular team meetings to ensure timely and relevant materials are shared and socialized.

This role requires in-depth knowledge of Visa’s business and a strong set of relationships across the company. Some travel will be required.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of work experience
with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work experience
with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications:

We are looking for an individual who brings strong leadership skills, exceptional maturity and attention to detail, ability to scale up knowledge in new areas and capabilities as they emerge, strength in connecting the dots and people in a business challenge or opportunity, along with the ability to effectively manage several urgent business priorities and significant regulatory developments simultaneously. As a candidate, you should have:

• 15 or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 years of experience with an
Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience
• Bachelor level-degree preferred. Post-graduate education in relevant field beneficial.
• Preferably seeking candidates with a minimum of 2 years’ experience at the Director level or above.
• Previous professional experience in an official government capacity and/or employment history in
politics, public relations, diplomacy, event planning, trade associations, or consulting a plus.
• Superior executive-level writing skills required. High attention to detail with ability to synthesize
information from multiple sources and distill it in crisp, clear language appropriate for a variety of
audiences.
• Strong MS PowerPoint and Excel skills required. Familiarity with MS Teams, SharePoint, and
Dynamics an asset.
• Exceptional organizational skills and ability to meet time critical deadlines.
• Ability to act with discretion and handle sensitive information.
• Must have outstanding interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
• Should have a strong sense of curiosity to address rapidly changing environments, and a
corresponding ability to be nimble and adapt.
• Must be a genuinely inclusive leader and considerate team player with high emotional intelligence.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 164,800.00 to 214,200.00 USD, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
