Job Description

Policy & Programs is a team focused on the creation of new products, services, and policies to drive new revenue, increase acceptance, and convert more cash payments to credential based payments. The team creates solutions for large strategic clients (e.g., Apple, Google, Facebook) to help them create solutions to help them drive their payments businesses and buyer/issuer solutions to promote Visa as top-of-wallet, implementing/adjusting policy as needed to support those initiatives. The team also pilots innovative solutions to grow card acceptance in non-traditional methods and in new segments (e.g., electric vehicle charging, bill-pay) and emerging markets.

This is a global team that evaluates forward looking trends and scenarios to identify opportunities to modernize and improve our rules, policies and programs while creating flexibility to grow Visa core business. The primary responsibilities for this role will be contributing to the ongoing evolution of Visa’s Authorization Framework, which will lay the foundation for a modern and flexible framework suited to evolving business needs. The Authorization framework is being designed provide merchants and acquirers more options in the way they can authorize transactions, provide additional intelligence and support for issuers to make management of their cardholder open-to-buy easier. The net result is a framework designed to drive an increase in the number of good authorizations in the Visa system.

 

Essential Functions

As the Director of Authorizations for Policy and Programs you will:

  • Join a team that creates real, dynamic change and impact at scale

  • Contribute to ongoing development of Visa’s Authorization Framework, including design and leading implementation of required changes to rules, pricing and systems

  • Cross-collaborate with business and technology teams to develop and implement new value-added services

  • Manage the implementation of a new authorization program

  • Establish and maintain automated processes for comprehensive revenue performance tracking, gap analysis to identify where opportunities to develop new services and increase penetration

  • Establish, implement and maintain comprehensive monitoring programs designed to track non-compliance and remediate any operational aspects of authorizations by merchants and acquirers, and issuer behaviors

  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external clients to create opportunities to increase penetration

 

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD
  • Background in payments, knowledgeable of Visa’s network/operating model, and how authorizations are processed
  • Product Development and/or Project Management experience, developing new products from ground up and driving new revenue streams


Preferred Qualifications

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
  • Customer-oriented mindset, knowledgeable in all client, customer and partner roles
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and presentation
  • Experienced with product development life cycle, including planning, development of product roadmap, defining and supporting goals and strategies, and ongoing management
  • Experience in a range of functions including strategy, marketing, operations and finance
  • Demonstrated ability to research market trends, competition, and user requirements (primary and secondary research methods)
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaborate with cross-functional teams around the world across different time zones
  • Track record of increasing responsibility

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 155,400.00 to 202,000.00 USD, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
