Job Description

Visa Inc is looking for a dynamic individual to join Release Engineering team as a Sr Release Engineer in US foster city office. The team maintains the build/deploy systems and owns related processes to ensure high quality of delivery standards.

The Release Engineer will handle the daily responsibilities of supporting the release/DevOps needs of development scrum teams. These tasks include configuration identification, change management, build, deploy and release artifact management, version control, and source code auditing, reporting, environment support and troubleshooting.

The Sr Release Engineer will work with multiple functional teams, and providing assistance through-out the development cycle for any S/W code changes to build, release, deploy processes to get QA certified into integration environments to release into production environments. Cross-functional team collaboration and effective communications skills are essential.

 

Essential Functions

Key responsibilities include:
• Handle the daily responsibilities of supporting the build and release needs of development scrum teams.
• Assist in scheduling and implementing changes to the build / release / version-control processes required to enforce and apply release engineering best practices
• Provide guidance to cross-team and team members in release best practices and procedures
• Support all pre-production, managed environments for middleware services and applications
• Work with cross functional, geographically distributed teams to provide 24X7 support across multiple non-production environments.
• Responsible for continuous delivery pipeline for build & deployment

• Responsible for owning a specific deployment problems and provide active coordination between various groups including internal and external vendor support groups in resolving a specific problem
• Responsible for working with Security, Operations, Development, testing team and other teams to understand changes to the existing production environment on an ongoing basis and for environment support
• Maintain service availability, performance, integrity, capacity and security.
• Troubleshoot and support environment availability.
• Provide appropriate feedback to leads about the progress and timeline related to specific problem
• Maintain and suggest improvements to the simple deployment scripts and tools
• Update documentation that communicates standards and best practices of the release engineering team

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

2 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD, or PhD)

Preferred Qualifications

3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD)
4 years of Software Industry experience with 2 years of experience in Release/DevOps and configuration management roles
- Build and troubleshoot build issues in java applications
- Linux, Unix and Shell Scripting and Automation
- Experience in CI tool - Jenkins, both in setup and support is highly desired.
- Experience with Containers, Kubernetes, Docker EE/OpenShift.
- Knowledge of CM concepts (branching, merging, integration, versioning, etc.)
- Experience with a scripting language (Perl, Python, bash)
- Advance knowledge and experience with Linux and UNIX,
- Should have working experience with monitoring tools SPLUNK, or any other monitoring tools/processes.
- Experience in working with RDBS Database technology like Oracle, MySQL, Liquibase.
- Experience with SCM tools -GIT (Bitbucket) and Artifactory
- Experience with Project Management tools (Jira)
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with distributed teams.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment with continuously changing priorities

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 100,400.00 to 128,000.00 USD, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
