About Global Controllership

Global Controllership ensures the integrity and accuracy of the consolidated Visa Inc. financial statements and local statutory financial statements around the world.  We aim to do so by partnering and collaborating with the business and other Finance functions, providing excellent customer service, while also strengthening Visa’s global financial control environment through effective operating policies, procedures and controls. We provide support to Visa’s business operations in a broad range of functional areas including revenue and client incentive operations, financial close, technical accounting and SEC reporting, tax, and internal controls.  Global Controllership is driven by its four core values. Position Summary

The Director – SEC Reporting role is responsible for the integrity and accuracy of Visa’s quarterly SEC Form 10-Q and annual SEC Form 10-K filings. This role requires an aptitude for thought leadership for Visa’s SEC filings and oversight of financial reporting standards and requirements, including quarterly filings and reporting strategy. 

This role includes oversight and participation in planning, drafting and other activities that facilitate the efficient completion of those filings. Such activities include: (i) planning the quarterly drafting and review cycle, (ii) leading quarterly meetings with senior management from global functions and geographies, (iii) developing an in-depth understanding and analysis of significant transactions to assess their impact for SEC disclosure purposes, and (iv) monitoring the activities of all accounting standard setting bodies to ensure timely identification of emerging accounting pronouncements to ensure compliance with all GAAP and disclosure requirements. Additionally, this role partners closely with the Technical Accounting side of the team, occasionally participating in technical accounting analysis of significant or unusual transactions, or recently issued accounting updates. This role will report to the Senior Director of SEC Reporting, and interacts regularly with external auditors, Legal and Investor Relations, with routine exposure to the Corporate Controller, Assistant Controller, Geography Controllers, and CFO. While this role does not have any direct reports, the Director of SEC Reporting will provide oversight, guidance and coaching to develop a team of talented SEC reporting members.

The successful candidate needs to have deep expertise in SEC reporting requirements and commitment to high quality financial reporting and experience working collaboratively with leading industry thought leadership with SEC, FASB or related bodies through the standard setting process or extensive consultation with financial reporting and compliance regulators. Additionally, the candidate will need to have the ability to implement processes to improve operational efficiency, work with cross-functional teams, and prepare disclosure analysis related to accounting issues, all with a strong sense of ownership and urgency.

Essential functions

Core leadership and participation in quarterly earnings, SEC filing process and other financial and governmental statutory reporting, including: (i) daily project management of drafting of the quarterly and annual filings, including managing reviews and comment clearing process, (ii) participate in drafting and review of various sections of the quarterly and annual filings, including supporting the earnings release cycle, (iii) preparing quarterly analytical reviews to support Management’s Discussion and Analysis assessing quarterly transactions for accounting treatment and disclosure, and (iv) managing key internal relationships between SEC Reporting and global functions and geographies.  Execute all responsibilities in compliance with our SOX 404 internal control framework. Strategic Decision Making & Relationship Building: The tactical and strategic decisions will include making and supporting judgments and assumptions relating to Visa's financial statements and disclosures. Other aspects will require the ability to influence key stakeholders and deliver superior customer service. Ownership of key SEC Reporting policies, including: (i) seeking feedback from stakeholders, and championing policy changes as business needs evolve, (ii) facilitating edits and updates, and obtaining proper approvals, and (iii), managing compliance and monitoring programs to ensure policy compliance. Support various aspects of the KPMG integrated audit, including: (i) planning pre-audit kick-off meetings, (ii) overseeing interim testing activities, (iii) completing various quarter-end tasks, (iv) managing audit requests, and (v) driving cost-saving efficiencies.

Success in this role will be measured by exhibited work product and demonstrated competencies.

  • and, forward-looking identification of potential issues and disclosure impacts when working with stakeholders.

Flex Work Arrangement: This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
• 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD, including Big 4 public accounting experience and SEC reporting experience with a large publicly-traded company
• Certified Public Accountant
• Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC accounting and reporting requirements
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience researching and documenting disclosure guidance and the accounting treatment of issues
• Ability to effectively facilitate and present in group meetings
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic-thinking skills with a forward-looking focus
• Teamwork is essential to the group, so it is critical that the candidate interact with other team members and managers collaboratively and effectively
• Excellent time management, organizational, and project management skills with experience in working toward tight deadlines
• Experience with SOX 404 and internal control over financial reporting
• Advanced proficiency with Workiva (formerly Webfilings) and XBRL

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 150,000 to 195,000 USD, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable).  Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
