Job Description

Client Services works with issuers, acquirers, processors, and merchants worldwide to develop and deliver the support model for Visa. This includes day-to-day operations and product support, back office support and customer performance reporting. Client Services includes the CaRDS function of Contract Management, Rules, Disputes and the Standards function which supports the structural foundation of the Visa Payments network. 

Services, including Rules management, Dispute adjudication, Contract management and external Standards Body Management, are provided to ensure the safety, security and integrity of the payment system and to support Visa clients in the development of their electronic payments business. 

This is an operational role for a seasoned individual contributor, to develop Visa Rules that meet the regulatory and strategic objectives of Visa Inc. and its Clients. This covers rules with respect to the Visa Charter Documents, Visa Core Rules and Product and Service Rules, and associated Supplemental Requirements and the various laws governing payment systems across the globe.

The jobholder works independently under limited supervision. Work is mostly defined by the business but can be complex with respect to assessing the impact to the wider ecosystem. The role holder will influence others within the Visa Rules Management (VRM) team but mostly outside the team in other job functions with regard to the practices, policies and procedures for rule development. In addition, the role may coach and review work of team members who need assistance on rule development topics.

This position can be based in Atlanta, GA; Austin, TX; or Miami, FL.

Essential Duties

  • Specifically, the VRM team establishes and enforces common interoperable rules and standards for our products and services by which clients must operate their Visa programs globally. 
  • This position is responsible for the development of Visa Rules, including understanding the downstream impacts of business function sponsor proposals for new or updated products, systems, services, programs or other initiatives regarding the client legal agreement. The role will facilitate global rules or rules for other regions as required.
  • The role ensures that all drafted rules are consistent with current Visa philosophy while adapting to market-driven change. The role must ensure that all materials meet department standards of quality and are delivered to the Visa Rules Committee (VRC) for approval.
  • The role requires guiding business function sponsors through the process of concept, development, review, approval and publication. In addition, the role ensures that all appropriate approvals are obtained from other Visa Committees, as appropriate, as well as ensuring all such processes are documented and managed within the global function.
  • The incumbent will also provide Clients, Visa staff and any regulatory bodies, as needed, with accurate interpretation and analysis of Visa Rules in response to inquiries, and as a full project team member for assigned projects as required.

Role specifics cover:

  • Responsible for ensuring Visa rules reflect the goals and strategy for Visa Inc.
  • Delivery of advice and interpretation on all regulatory matters, as documented in the Visa Rules, to Clients and staff.
  • Management of multiple revision topics with business sponsors at any one time, prioritizing as appropriate, and providing direction to staff in various Visa business functions.
  • Accountable for ensuring the Visa Rules are easy to understand and do not leave Visa open to any unintended consequences.
  • Primarily responsible for the development of new and revised Visa Rules and secondarily for processing waivers.
  • Support of the Visa Rules Committee Due Diligence and Governance Process.
  • Review of Visa Business News (VBN’s) prior to release.
  • Management and assistance in the publication of the Visa Rules through the Visa Publication Tool as well as identifying improvements.
  • Development assistance for Supplemental Requirements to the Visa Rules that are also contractually binding.
  • Development of Redacted Disclosure Regulations for the public version of the Visa rules.
  • Communication of waiver approvals to impacted clients.
  • Support the development and maintenance of departmental processes and procedures.
  • May coach and review the work of less experienced professionals on the team.
  • Must manage independently to priorities liaising with business functions as required based on Visa strategy and key business drivers to ensure revenue is maximized.
  • Represent Visa Rules Management team within the global and regional offices to ensure Visa global initiatives and best practices are effectively introduced.
  • Make recommendations and proposals with respect to Visa Rules to the wider team or to multi-disciplinary cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 8 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven abilities in negotiating with and influencing customers and staff at all levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey complex topics in “Plain English”.
  • Strong analytical aptitude and demonstrated track record of working with business information to develop business-oriented solutions as well as the ability to apply sound business analysis to limit the downstream impact of decisions.
  • Experience gathering business requirements and translating needs into successful deliverables.
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure, self-challenging and adhering to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage expectations, and work both as part of a team and independently.


Preferred Experience:

  • 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD.
  • Extensive experience in Visa, a Membership organization, card industry or equivalent.
  • Awareness and understanding of Visa and Client / Industry business priorities.
  • Understanding of Visa products, services and systems knowledge of the Visa Rules.
  • Working (intermediate) knowledge of Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of Madcap Flare (Authoring Software).

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
