Job Description

The Enterprise Data Governance Vice President will play a key role in Visa’s Chief Data Office by designing, building, and managing the key management processes to enable enterprise-wide data governance.  The individual will be a key resource to the Chief Data Officer, the Data Policy team, and the Global Privacy Office to ensure our practices are in alignment with our data policies and strategic business objectives. Included in the key processes are data catalog management, data lineage and metadata management, data quality monitoring, and data stewardship.  In addition, the VP for Enterprise Data Governance will play a lead role in promoting best practices and process improvement efforts in Visa’s data management environment.   These critical activities will enable Visa data that is fit for purpose and meets the requirements and expectations of the business.  

The VP Enterprise Data Governance and their representative Data Stewards will collaborate with multiple Visa departments across the global regions, working most extensively with other members of the Data Policy, Platforms and Programs (DPPP) team and the Global Privacy Office to operationalize Visa’s enterprise data strategy, policies, and governance programs.  The selected candidate will be responsible for providing management and leadership of end-to-end data requirements, scope, and decision-making with respect to data sourcing, data catalog, and data quality. The individual will also play a key role in facilitating and expediting resolution of data issues, including escalation (where needed), and coordinating business use cases.

The ideal candidate is an experienced professional in data-related fields with a deep understanding of the value of data, particularly in aspects related to data policies, stewardship, compliance, risk management, and overall data use. A proven record of successful management of cross-functional and cross-geography projects is also essential for the role.  The ideal candidate has the strong communication and collaboration skills to help evolve Visa’s operating culture to strengthen alignment with our Data Values, in particular the value of “accountability.”  Prior experience in launching similar enterprise-wide programs (e.g., compliance, risk management) is a plus.

Major responsibilities

  • Stand up and manage Visa’s Enterprise Data Governance Office (DGO), including managing all governance committees, working groups, as well as relationships with other relevant stakeholders such as Risk and Audit. As part of the implementation of the DGO, ensure data governance change management is properly positioned within Visa’s overall data strategy, our new and clarified data policies, and refreshed privacy programs emerging from the Global Privacy Office, with messaging that aligns with the Data Policy, Platforms and Programs team communications strategy.
  • Lead implementation and operation of Visa’s next generation Data Stewardship Program in close coordination with Visa’s Global Privacy Office and the Global Data Policy team.
  • Lead the design and implementation of key data enablement/governance components such as Enterprise Data Catalog and Enterprise Data Quality strategy.
  • Coordinate with the Global Data Policy function to define the Enterprise Data Governance Policy and its related Standards, then define and manage the implementation strategy.
  • Design, implement, and lead Visa’s data governance operational strategy and activities, corresponding frameworks, and short- and long-term roadmaps for maturing Visa’s data governance position, including required monitoring. Coordinate implementation and operations across functions and regions.
  • Lead design and implementation of required actionable monitoring programs to support operationalization of the Enterprise Data Governance strategy.
  • Partner closely with Technology to support the investment in platforms, tools, and technologies that enable Visa’s Enterprise Data Governance Strategy, whether developed internally or externally.
  • Manage the professional development and growth of direct reports in line with team expansion.

Potential work locations- A Visa regional Hub location, such as San Francisco / Foster City, Miami, London, Singapore, or Dubai

 

Qualifications

• 12 or more years of work experience with a bachelor’s degree or at least 10 years of experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 8 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications
• PhD, JD, or MS in business administration with focus on engineering, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics or another data-related discipline.
• At least 10 years of experience in financial services and/or payments.
• Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in related functions.
• Experience in compliance and/or risk management functions is a plus.

• Ability to rapidly comprehend changes in the business landscape (whether regulatory, competitive, or business-related) and design around the expected impact.
• Strong leadership, enthusiasm, and accountability with high attention to detail and quality for all work products.
• Strong people skills with proven ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external clients at all levels of management and work on cross-functional teams on complex issues.
• Strong business acumen and understanding of Visa and Client business models.
• A proven track record of delivering high impact results working on projects in the areas of corporate strategy, growth initiatives and new market/segment/business strategies.
• Ability to successfully lead complex projects and processes with multiple stakeholders in an unstructured and sometimes ambiguous environment.
• Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to influence and build credibility with senior functional and regional leaders within Visa. Tea- oriented, collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible.
• Proactive and effective communicator. Experienced at presenting information to senior levels, with ability to facilitate group discussions and debate with proven ability to influence and communicate effectively across geographic and functional lines (whether virtual or in-person).
• Global, multi-national business experience is strongly preferred.

Flex Work Arrangement- This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
