What's it all about?

The Senior Director, Head of Cross-border Policy Engagement is a full-time role focused on leading broad outreach activities with central banks and policymakers related to cross-border payments. The role will be accountable for developing and maintaining Visa's policy positions and messaging on cross-border payments and coordinating Visa’s engagement with international policy and standard setting bodies (i.e FSB, BIS, CPMI) on the FSB’s cross-border roadmap. The position will be in San Francisco, London or Brussels. We would be open to discuss other locations. It will report directly to the VP of Cross Border Policy and Strategic Initiatives.

Key responsibilities include

  • Being a recognized thought leader on global money movement and how private sector innovation is resolving the frictions of cross-border payments.

  • Lead Visa’s cross-border policy engagements with central banks and other global policymaking institutions such as FSB, BIS, CPMI, OECD, FATF, and BIS Innovation Hubs.

  • Execute strategic engagement opportunities with regional regulators and policy makers to ensure Visa is well positioned to influence the regulatory environment for cross-border payments.

  • Develop a deep understanding of Visa’s cross-border capabilities and how they could be better leveraged by the public sector in improving digital inclusion and in resolving cross-border payment frictions.

  • Lead development of Visa’s position regarding possible regulatory and policy proposals on cross-border payments, including identifying cross-border payments regulatory challenges and translating them into actionable recommendations for commercial and product teams.

  • Promote public policies that ensure a level playing field for private sector innovation in cross-border payments.

  • Assisting the VP Cross Border Policy and Visa Executives in identifying strategic engagement opportunities with regulators and policy makers to ensure Visa is well positioned to influence the regulatory discourse on key policy issues.

What we expect of you, day to day

  • You will help develop and maintain Visa’s policy positions on cross-border payments, working across Visa, especially the product functions.

  • You will develop and implement an overall external engagement strategy on cross-border payments, coordinating with regional GE and business colleagues.

  • You will openly communicate timely and effectively with executives to ensure awareness of main regulatory/policy developments and strategy to protect Visa business and reputation.

  • You will promote Visa's reputation and profile by speaking at public events, industry conferences, trade associations, payment roundtables, etc.

  • You will coordinate Visa’s engagement in the FSB’s cross-border roadmap, you will proactively search for opportunities to weigh in on the 19 building blocks of the roadmap, and you will lead Visa’s responses to consultations or solicitations of views from building block owners.

  • You will lead and/or support research initiatives related to cross-border payments, this may include directly authoring policy analysis.

  • You should have the ability to work independently and to lead a cross-functional project team.

  • Global travel will be expected, when post-COVID travel resumes.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15 or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience
  • Law, Economics, Policy, or Political Science degree, post graduate studies preferred
  • Active network of central bankers, regulators, and policymakers
  • In-depth knowledge of the electronic payments/banking industry/crypto/fintech
  • Proven ability to operate effectively and efficiently in a challenging, fast-paced environment
  • Strong financial services and/or technology interest
  • Strategic advocacy and effective communication skills required
  • Superior inter-personal skills
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively
  • A team player, able to work across various Visa functions
  • Excellent written and spoken communication abilities in English, knowledge of other languages appreciated. Enjoy writing position papers, articles, thought pieces etc.

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
