Job Description

Design @ Visa, a global Product Design organization, is comprised of nine specializations: Design, Research, Accessibility, Design Engineering, Content Design, Inclusive Design, Design Strategy, Analytics Design and Design Operations (Design Ops). 

Design Ops is looking for an experienced Design Ops, Director with expertise in and a passion for People Ops to join our team. Collectively, Design Ops is responsible for partnering across our organization to transform and optimize the impact, productivity, scalability and culture of Design @ Visa. You will work with the Global Design leads and business stakeholders in Product, Technology, Innovation, Legal, People, Finance and Sourcing to empower Design teams to do their best work.

Together, we enable and inspire our designers along their full career journey, from recruitment and onboarding to growth and advancement, so they can imagine and co-create the future of commerce. In this role, you will grow and manage a small team (1-2 roles, 6-12 months) responsible for driving our critical people-focused initiatives across Design in collaboration with our Design leaders, People and Finance Business Partners.

 

Although we prefer candidates be located in one of our Design hubs—Austin, San Francisco or New York City—we are open to the possibility of a remote work arrangement should it suit all parties

 

Role responsibilities include

  • Develop and drive the strategy of the People Ops function within Design Ops to create a culture Designers want to join, stay and grow their careers from purpose
  • Lead and manage critical programs and operationalize key activities in the Design Ops portfolio with a People Ops focus to foster a good Designer experience, attract top talent and expand our design capabilities
  • Partner with Design leaders to drive hiring strategy, identifying and prioritizing needs considering the holistic composition of Design specializations and the vision for Design @ Visa
  • Be an advocate for our people across Design, always putting people first
  • Exercise independent judgment with minimal direction from supervisor
  • Develop measurement practices to define program successes and growth opportunities
  • Mentor, provide guidance and serve as a point of escalation for more junior team members
  • Effectively demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills

 

Essential Functions

  • Strong communication, relationship-building, leadership and influencing skills at all levels 
  • Effective at bringing clarity to ambiguous situations and building programs from the ground up
  • Strong proficiency in business tools, especially Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, PowerPoint and/or Keynote  
  • Familiarity in Design tools such as Mural, Figma FigJam   
  • Skilled in building new programs and creating momentum around priorities in a fast-growth environment 
  • Ability to collect, manage and communicate with quantitative and qualitative data  
  • Ability to analyze information from a variety of sources, prioritize actions appropriately and to provide suitable solutions based on information available
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong business relationships with internal and external partners
  • Resilient and positive attitude, even in challenging circumstances  
  • Experience proactively navigating in a complex, matrixed organization
  • Multi-disciplinary thinking skills: creative, analytic, strategic
  • Fully fluent in English and able to understand and be easily understood in English
  • Ability to self-manage time and work independently or as part of a team

 

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

COLORADO APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position in Colorado is $124,200 to $161,500  USD.  Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for annual bonus and equity.  Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position is eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
• Minimum of 10 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree, at least 8 years of work experience with a Master’s Degree (or other advanced degree) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications
• Minimum of 12-15 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree, 8-10 years of experience with a Master’s Degree (or other advanced degree) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
• Direct experience in Design Operations, with a focus on people and strategy in building and scaling design teams, and fostering a culture where Designers thrive
• Champion of measurement-driven approach to growing programs

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
