Job Description

Visa Global Product Design is seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Design Researcher with expertise in quantitative user research that drives leading-edge product design. This Senior Design Researcher will be a team leader who will have the opportunity to make valuable contributions to growing and building Visa’s mixed-methods Design Research organization.

We value methodological rigor, kindness, inclusivity, accountability and collaboration.  In this role, you will contribute to strategy and lead execution for full scale quantitative research projects delivering compelling research insights that distill the complexity of client challenges. You will play a vital role in developing new products & services across a variety of product lines, as well as helping inform critical human insights employed by internal product, consulting and account teams.  


We prefer candidates be located in one of our Design Research hubs—Austin, San Francisco, Bellevue, Atlanta or New York City.


Role responsibilities include

  • Execute all phases of quantitative research (scoping, designing research strategy, conducting the research, synthesizing results and reporting).
  • Evangelize and promote mixed-method design research, storytelling and insights throughout the organization.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase, and be able to justify research and design decisions.
  • Work across multiple clients to execute research delivering actionable and timely insights.
  • Identify how to frame complex research problems as well as evaluate agencies and vendors to support projects, when needed.
  • Act as a change agent, sparking fresh ideas that elevate the research practice.
  • Foster collaboration between Design, Research, Design Operations & Product teams, in addition to establishing relationships with other partners throughout Visa.
  • Represent the team successfully with all types of stakeholders including Visa clients and partners.
  • Mentor other design researchers and lead by example in delivering excellent individual work.


This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.


Basic Qualifications
• 2 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD, or PhD)
• 3-5 years of work experience in a mixed- methods research practice with qualitative and quantitative research techniques such as survey development, interviews, usability tests, product/concept testing, and significance testing.
• Experience with data analysis software such as SPSS, R, or similar.
• Experience facilitating design-thinking and brainstorming sessions.
• Familiarity with tools like Mural, Airtable,, InVision, Figma.

Preferred Qualifications
• 3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD)
• 5 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s or 3+ relevant years of experience with an advanced degree (e.g. Master’s Degree/MBA/PhD).
• Significant experience in a role with responsibility for mixed-methods design research including research scoping, planning and execution, as well as client management for complex research projects.
• Experience and understanding of product management and innovation in the payments space a plus.

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
