Are you passionate about the intersection of public policy, payments, and cryptocurrency? Payment technology is constantly evolving, accelerating commerce, and emphasizing the need to contribute to the policy dialogue to help shape outcomes for consumers. The Director, Digital Currency Policy will play an instrumental role in developing and implementing government engagement strategies to advance Visa’s perspective on digital currency and contribute to the development of a public policy environment that encourages innovation and competition, while ensuring a secure, trusted, and robust payments ecosystem.

As a member of Visa's Global Policy team within Visa's Government Engagement (GE) organization, the Director will primarily be responsible for monitoring, researching, and providing strategic policy advice and thought leadership with respect to cryptocurrency and Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC). The Director will also work on a range of other strategic and emerging payments policy issues, as required.

Location for this role is flexible, though San Francisco Bay Area is preferred

Essential Functions:

• In close partnership with the Visa Crypto team and other business leaders, monitor and track regulatory and public policy developments across markets, identify emerging policy trends, analyze their impacts to Visa, and work with cross-functional teams to develop a strategic response to emerging policy threats and opportunities.

• Manage and lead development of government consultations related to cryptocurrency and CBDC, as required.

• Build deep partnerships with Visa’s Crypto team, regional GE teams, and other Visa business unit colleagues, proactively identify opportunities for collaboration and deliver effective solutions.

• Write and/or support development of crypto- and CBDC-related policy position papers,work with Fellows of the Visa Economic Empowerment Institute (VEEI) to identity, support and develop research projects and written content.

• Support local and regional business executives and regional GE colleagues with specific requests for information, advice, industry data, as needed.

• Support executive engagements by developing briefing materials, presentations, talking points, related to cryptocurrencies and CBDCs.

• Advise internal stakeholders on the policy and regulatory impact of product and technology initiatives, inform and educate external policy stakeholders on Visa’s product and technology solutions related to cryptocurrency and CBDC. In close coordination with local GE, legal, and global regulatory affairs teams, advise Visa’s product teams on regulatory developments and compliance requirements, especially with respect to regulatory localization and other policy developments.

• Manage external partnerships and third-party research and work statement that align with the responsibilities related to the role.

• When required, develop research and policy analysis papers that advance the policy dialogue and public understanding of crypto related issues.

• Articulate a positive and achievable vision for policies that spur innovation, inclusion, and competitiveness.

• Strong public speaker and presenter with a proven track record of advancing public policy initiatives that support growth.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
