Job Description

Visa is seeking a Staff Data Engineer focusing on Web development within the Commercial Product Development team and  Data Pipeline, Data Analytics and AI model within the Commercial Product Development team, which is a part of Visa's Data Product Development organization and is responsible for designing, developing and managing 20+ Information products and services for Visa's Commercial line of products. Our range of products include data processing platforms, BI reporting and data mining solutions, B2B payments platform.  You will work on customer-facing web and mobile applications using cutting-edge open source frameworks, highly-available RESTful services, and back-end systems using the hottest technologies in Big Data.

This position reports to Director, Visa IntelliLink Platform and will be based in Austin, TX. The successful candidate will be a Lead/developer focused on application development of critical data intensive applications.

  • Design and develop mission-critical systems, delivering high-availability and performance
  • Work on development of new products and enhancements to existing systems iteratively by building quick POCs and converting ideas into real products
  • Work closely with architects, business and technical stakeholders to develop high quality products and services that meet business requirements and expectations while applying the latest available tools and technology
  • Instill best practices for software development, and deliver high quality work on tight schedules
  • Formulate methods to enable consistent Data loading and optimize Data operations
    Monitor health of the platforms and Generate Performance Reports and Monitor and provide continuous improvements
  • Identify opportunities for further enhancements and refinements to standards and processes
  • Mentor junior team members, develop departmental procedures and best practices standards
  • Coordinate Continuous Integration activities, testing automation frameworks, and other related items in addition to contributing core product code
  • Present technical solutions, capabilities, considerations, and features in business terms. Effectively communicate status, issues, and risks in a precise and timely manner

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 4 years of relevant work experience with a Master’s Degree, or a PhD.

 Preferred Qualification:

  • Bachelor degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field required. Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of software development experience (with a concentration in data centric initiatives), with demonstrated expertise in leveraging development best practice methodologies
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in design and development of large-scale SaaS products and services with following technologies: C# or Java, JavaScript, Web Services, Entity Framework and Database
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in design and development of distributed batch or real time data pipeline and data analytics solutions, using HDFS, MapReduce, Spark, Kafka Streaming, or Apache Flink.
  • Experience with large-scale DR systems with both VM and Container based multi datacenter (active active) solutions, external 3rd parties such as Akamai, Cloud Fare etc. and how to bring the solution together into a single view
  • Experience in Microservices design and implementing RESTful APIs.
  • Exposure to leading-edge areas such as Machine Learning, AI, Big Data
  • Experience in improving application availability & resilience.
  • Familiar with container strategies and ecosystems such as Docker, Kubernetes
  • Good knowledge and experience of database fundamentals, RDBMS data modeling, programming and performance tuning with MS SQL and/or equivalent database.
  • Identify opportunities for future enhancements and refinements to standards, best practices and development methodologies
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices and framework is a plus
  • Experience in supporting large enterprise applications is a plus
  • Experience in Agile methodologies such as Scrum.
  • Always have an aptitude to learn new technologies and take on challenges

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
