Job Description

The Country Manager for Pakistan and Afghanistan is responsible for setting the direction of the overall business, objectives, targets and plans in the markets. To lead and represent Visa and its functional teams from the Karachi office and achieve targets by growing existing consumer payments and by identifying New Payment Flows from both existing clients and non-FI clients like MNOs/Telcos, Fintechs, Merchants and the Government. The role is responsible for introducing and ensuring the implementation of new solutions and sell value added services in the market. To act as the market representative and spokesperson for Visa.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Regional Strategic Planning

To manage the development of the strategic plan by integrating and setting priorities based on insight about the market, clients’ business plans, Visa priorities and competitor activities. Identify success factors for progressive and dynamic business growth. Identify and execute plans to capture New Payment Flows from mass enablement of Digital Partners (digital wallets, new age payment devices, technology providers and consumer platforms). Capture the emerging opportunity from solutions like Visa Direct, P2P payments and remittance solutions for Visa. 

Country Planning

Ensure the development of country plans that are aligned with the Multi-Year Strategy for a high growth emerging market like Pakistan. Establish key account plans, with corresponding tactics and actions to achieve defined goals. Ensure consistency with the CEMEA / NALP and International strategic plans. Ensure that all internal and hub level reporting is carried out in a timely and regular fashion. Share purpose and objectives with staff members. Ensure that the plan is understood and shared by functional teams within Visa.

Business Results

Accountable for achieving business targets through growing existing business CIF/PV/MV and developing new business opportunities. Monitor business results of clients and anticipate challenges and take proactive measures to accomplish country targets. Ensure the execution of the Multi-year Strategic Plan for Pakistan.

Relationship Management

Develop, maintain and cultivate close relationships with decision-makers and senior management of Visa clients, partner companies, Central Banks and National Banking Associations. Understand their business strategies, priorities, needs and business processes, present to them strategic ideas and share Visa’s views on industry developments and dynamics and advise them how Visa products can impact their results. Be the senior Visa representative at Forums and other national level meetings.

Market Knowledge

Monitor the development of the payments, banking and financial services industry across the region, analyze trends and understand factors impacting current and potential business results of Visa. Maintain close contacts with national organizations and central banks and be aware of any developments which could present a threat to Visa.

Team Management

To work with the business development and other functional resources in the office to deliver goals for the country.

Qualifications

  • Post Graduate level Degree in Business or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 15 years business experience with related sales and management experience in payments, mobile, software, hardware or technology services industry
  • Understanding of the payment landscape and Business Development with a proven record in the region.
  • Proven record of implementing strategic initiatives, policies and operational decisions
  • Strategic thinking and thought leadership
  • Executive presence, Strong written and oral communication, including large-group presentations
  • Team oriented, collaborative and flexible
  • Ability to influence and work within matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated track record of planning, managing and closing a complex, competitive sales effort and managing deals from negotiation to closing and through to execution.
  • Experience of influencing/managing direct and non-direct reports.
  • Strong focus on I&D with personal credibility and sensitivity to operate in multicultural environment
  • Comfortable with business use applications like Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience managing up, building Executive Level communications and delivering presentations

  • Knowledge of payments technology and experience with influencing and negotiating with the C-suite level clients, Regulators, Merchants, Media, Domestic switches, third party vendors and other key external stakeholders
  • Fluency in English and Urdu
