Job Description

Visa is seeking a business and commercial lawyer to join its growing legal team that supports Visa’s New Payment Flows organizations. The position will report to a Senior Managing Counsel, Legal - New Payment Flows.

This position is for an in-house attorney who will be a member of the team that supports Visa Direct.  As a member of this team, you’ll provide thoughtful and pragmatic legal guidance to one of the fastest growing teams at Visa.   The attorney will work closely with other experienced lawyers and compliance professionals, and regularly engage with business clients.

Applicants must be skilled at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and challenging, but highly rewarding, environment; have good judgment and strong analytical, client counseling, and negotiation skills; be self-motivated; and, most importantly, be an optimistic, curious, and collaborative team player.

Visa Is Looking For Someone Who Will

  • Draft, negotiate, and drive to completion complex commercial agreements that achieve business objectives, and continue to support those business relationships once consummated
  • Draft, update, and manage template agreements to allow for more efficient contract administration process;
  • Provide sophisticated and creative counseling and advice to business teams regarding product development, deployment, and associated commercial and contracting considerations
  • Provide legal review and approval of presentations and other day-to-day work product and content created by the business teams
  • Manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Work closely with Visa’s regional and local legal and business teams globally, and assist these teams in resolving regional and local issues, including to achieve consistency on approaches and issues by Visa worldwide

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• 6 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s and JD
• Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
• Current member in good standing of a State Bar with the ability to become barred or a registered in-house counsel in the state where this role is located.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Must be able to work independently and collaboratively as needed, and engage directly with business clients at all levels
• Must be a practical and creative problem-solver with strong business acumen and work ethic
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills, including the ability to translate complex legal concepts into business-oriented advice
• Experience drafting and negotiating and/or litigating complex commercial transactions
• Ability to successfully prioritize and oversee a large number of matters
• Developed business acumen, with the ability to understand the company’s business interests and anticipate the nature and magnitude of issues that could arise in a fast-paced environment
• Strong preference for prior experience in payments or financial services

This position is open to locations in New York City, NY, Foster City, CA, San Francisco, CA, Atlanta, GA and Austin, TX.

Travel Requirements:
• This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements:
• This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, reach with hands and arms, and bend or lift up to 25 pounds.
