Job Description

What it's all about?

The EU Acquirer & Enabler Business Development team is responsible for driving pan-European growth by establishing close partnerships with select Large Merchant Acquirers, and other Merchant Service Providers, for example payment gateways and fintechs. As a key member of the team, the selected candidate will be responsible for driving key opportunities and initiatives which ultimately will aim to expand Visa acceptance, grow card usage, and partner with clients to grow Visa solution penetration across the European region.

This Business Development Director will lead on high-profile, acquirer and enabler deals, and work in tandem with internal partners to identify and cultivate relevant growth opportunities.  We expect regular engagement with key partners, and key internal stakeholders, as well as developing business plans in order to deliver sustainable revenue growth.

We are seeking a candidate who will bring both commercial acumen, creativity and an analytical approach grounded in data to the partner opportunities.  Our ability to be successful rests on gaining a deep understanding of the payments ecosystem, market trends, and ultimately client needs.  Experience in the payments industry is preferred, but not essential.

What we expect you to do, day to day.

  • Develop new business opportunities with acquirers and other merchant service providers – Build strong client relationships, working in collaboration with a partner’s Visa account executive; identify and secure new business; build direct relationships with targeted partners to establish ‘Visa preference’; develop strategic relationships with senior management of partners and track through new business planning process.
  • Drive positive partner outcomes – establish fluency in all Visa merchant-facing solutions and communicate and articulate all aspects of Visa value proposition for acquirers; consultatively identify and prioritize acquirer needs and craft customized solutions that drive specific commercial metrics (e.g., merchant business growth, Visa growth) and increase merchant satisfaction with Visa products/ services.
  • Respond to commercial requests – work across a wider Visa client team to establish relevant, commercial constructs sensitive to our business priorities, leading on business case modelling, proposition development and client engagement.
  • Establish strong internal partnerships – partner with functions across Visa (e.g., sub-regional leadership, marketing, finance, product development, etc.) to collaboratively deliver partner commercial opportunities.

Qualifications

  • A results oriented leader with proven business experience and a proven track record in managing clients/accounts, developing relationships and sales partnerships
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to establish effective relationships and communicate with all levels of the organization including executive management
  • Proven ability to negotiate business agreements and to enhance existing and develop new business partnerships
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively across functions and geographies in a complex matrix environment
  • Strong strategic and thought leadership skills
  • Experience with client consulting projects a plus
  • Strong understanding of global payment system a plus
  • International & entrepreneurial mindset
  • Data management and analytics skills, experienced excel and comfort with Visa’s BI tools (Tableau, Microstrategy/GBI etc)
  • Vertical / segment expertise
  • Willingness to travel ~ 30% of the time
