Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to build upon the foundation established for our macroeconomics team covering the U.S. region. The U.S. Economist (Manager) will work as part of a team of U.S. economists to apply economic analysis to help provide payments industry business intelligence to internal and external clients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Participate in the team’s economic and industry forecasting efforts including forecast model construction and maintenance.

  • Work with the Principal U.S. Economist to develop economic content for the team’s client presentations and U.S. economics publications.

  • Serve as the lead analyst on the department’s flagship Bankcard Outlook, an industry focused report providing forecasts for key bankcard industry metrics and profitability.

  • Contribute to cross-functional projects and develop new client focused products and solutions with Visa’s Consulting and Analytics team.

  • Provide thought leadership to Visa senior management and clients by developing insights into the interplay between U.S. macroeconomic developments, payment industry trends and consumer spending behavior.

  • This position is project focused and typically requires managing multiple projects and priorities within strict time constraints  

  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal Visa stakeholders and partners.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

4 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Master’s, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD degree

Preferred Qualifications

We seek experienced, proactive, high-achieving professionals to bring innovative ideas to our economic analysis and consulting engagements.
Specific requirements include:
• Graduate degree in economics or an undergraduate degree with a Certified Business Economist (CBE) designation required along with a minimum of 4 years experience in an applied economic analysis role.
• Training and/or experience in econometrics is required. Experience constructing time series economic forecast models would be a plus.
• Experience using statistical software such as eViews, STATA, SPSS or SAS; functional knowledge and experience with IHS DataInsight, Haver Analytics and Bloomberg would be a plus.
• Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn or expand knowledge of the payments industry and financial services.
• Self-starter with the ability to manage own and others' priorities and adapt as required to an unstructured, fast-paced work environment.
• Ability to translate complex macroeconomic trends' and their impact on the payments industry, effectively conveying the implications to Visa and Visa’s clients.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, story-telling and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
