Job Description

What's it all about?

​​​​​​BP and Visa are creating an exciting new financial services environment focussing on fuel, new energy types and new ways for businesses to pay. The relationship is based on a shared objective of supporting the transformation of BP into a broader energy company, while strengthening customer relationships through innovate payment services and while helping Visa innovate. This role is to manage this relationship globally and needs a unique set of skills across B2B, consumer and acquiring payment solutions.

What we expect you to do, day to day.

  • Be the driving force behind this unique opportunity to enhance BP’s business products with Visa technology. Create an environment where BP & Visa teams can collaborate on B2B proposition development, customer analytics and segmentation, marketing campaign development and exploring new payment technologies. Drive both organisations to innovate. Operate in a genuinely global manner.

  • Maintain a strong discipline of planning and execution. Develop product plans and roadmaps of product change and launch. Work with senior stakeholders in both organisations to deliver against these roadmaps. Be able to work with teams globally.

  • Be a thought leader and champion of innovation. Understand of BP’s corporate objectives across Mobility and Convenience and be able to translate these objectives into product design, and innovation roadmaps. Be able to apply payments expertise across B2B use cases.

  • This is a highly commercial role with a focus on product and customer profitability.   The role requires that you develop an understanding of how BP determine profitability, how products are targeted and launched, the opportunities in multi-channel product sales, and how marketing campaigns are designed, implemented and the results are analysed against investment objectives.

  • Have a detailed understanding of all elements of the Visa products across Issuing and acquiring. On the issuing side, be able to work with Visa Business Solutions (VBS) across pre-paid and credit, and the full range of Visa consumer card and digital solutions.  Have a good understanding of interchange and how to shape products for BP in different markets. Be well connected into Visa in each region.

  • In addition, have an understanding of the new technologies that are transforming this sector, including telematics, mobile payment, connected car technologies, and the future of electric and hydrogen fleet services. An understanding of the growing market for Mobility services, and how this thinking will impact the vertical, will also be important to your role.

  • Support the BP team on day-to-day queries as required, provide a contact point into Visa globally as required.

Qualifications

What we’re after…

  • The successful applicant will possess senior level payments business or product development experience in an oil network or company, fleet card service provider, card network, or from a major customer group of BP. This experience should be supported by a broad understanding of the energy vertical globally.

  • An appreciation of the business drivers and challenges of the energy industry, and those organisations that collaborate and interact with them, for example vehicle lease companies, retails networks and fuel site franchise owners, Mobility service providers, and the impacts on the vertical creates by Regulatory change and the current economic climate. An understanding of the major customer groups supported by BP (Aviation Fuels, Lubricants) would also be beneficial.

  • Strong financial, analytical, collaborative and product skills that align with leading major opportunities will be required. Evidence of managing large opportunities and projects will be useful and a ‘self starter’ approach will be needed.

  • Innovative thinking and solution design, and collaborative work will be required, including the supporting client incentive packages that deliver value.

  • Have credibility to negotiate, strong relationship skills to gain the confidence of clients, and the ability to establish open and transparent relationships.

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are critical. Ideally, you will be comfortable representing Visa with BP, and in public forums, and reflecting the Visa values. One or more European languages is a plus, German would be desireable. The ability to travel across Europe for internal and external meetings and pitches when required.
