Job Description

Are you a data analysis ninja? Are your investigative skills worthy of CSI? Do your data visualizations make Tufte envious?  Do you speak Spark? If so, then we just might have the role for you!

We are seeking a passionate and ambitious Data Scientist to collaborate with our model development and production deployment teams. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Models for Credit and Data Products, in this role you will provide production support for the predictive model products that our team builds. This role is crucial to our success by ensuring that the products we build:

  • Meet our clients’ needs
  • Perform as expected
  • Are calibrated and updated on a periodic basis

In this role you will wear many hats and draw upon many skills. Essential responsibilities include providing quality control oversight during development, working with our sales team to demonstrate the effectiveness of our products to prospective clients, monitoring model performance to ensure stable and reliable output. As time permits, many other skills could be exercised as well by building models with our development team or creating re-usable code assets with our deployment team.

Essential Functions

  • Assist model development team by providing quality control oversight during their project development
  • Provide sales support including pilot testing and retro analysis to demonstrate efficacy of the product
  • Provide client support by providing data for projects and answering questions about the model output and its use
  • Ensure each model runs in production as scheduled
  • Provide quality control for production output to ensure it aligns with expectations
  • Investigate model performance and determine when refits are needed
  • As time permits, build predictive models to assist with product development
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ensure all models are following the established rules for data privacy and governance of production models
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in machine learning and AI

This role may be based in Arlington, VA or Foster City, CA.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 4 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD degree 
  • 2+ years of working experience in a predictive modeling, data analysis or data visualization function
  • Strong communication skills to work with internal and external clients
  • Attention to detail and diagnostic skills to identify root causes of issues identified by users or monitoring tools

 Preferred Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of work experience and a Bachelor’s Degree or 6 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 years of experience with a PhD.
  • Hands on experience with visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI or Graphana to develop tools to monitor model performance
  • Strong background in two or more of the following areas: data analysis and investigation, data visualization, big data technologies (e.g. Spark, Hadoop), large scale data analysis, functional analysis and deep learning
  • Experience with Spark (Scala or Python) will be very advantageous
  • Experience with Agile methods and tools (Jira, Git, Jenkins & Artifactory) for the production deployment of software or predictive models will give you an advantage
  • Financial/payment industry knowledge is a plus, but not required

This position requires the incumbent to be available during core business hours

Travel Requirements: 

This position requires the incumbent to travel for work less than 5% of the time

Mental/Physical Requirements:

This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, reach with hands and arms, and bend or lift up to 25 pounds.
