Job Description

We are the Data Platform Technology team within Visa. We collaborate with every other team at Visa to deliver on our broad mandate of Data Platforms that are secure, robust, and effective. To achieve this, we continuously and proactively reflect, learn, and commit to develop our platform, our processes, and our people.

We are actively looking for a talented and versatile Release Manager for our Visa Data Platform. You will be part of a global team of Release Managers. In this role you will:

  • Promote a DevOps culture through building relationships with Development & Operations, adherence to release management policies and driving enhancements to the end-to-end release process, including enhancements to Run Books process and Troubleshooting checklists.

  • Create mechanisms, systems, and dashboards to review DevOps maturity including adoption and metrics related to Source Control, Continuous Integration, and Artifact Management & Change Management.

  • Coordination and communication includes:

    • Release calendar, Upgrade, Infrastructure changes, Platform level bug fixes.

    • New data fields, Consistency across pipelines, Impacted data stores and BI layers.

    • Application list and contacts, Cross reference dependency matrix for impact analysis

  • As a change agent, discovers opportunities for process, technology, product and organizational improvements, pilots on a small scale, shares learnings with peers and managers, socializes change and negotiates improvements on a larger scale. Implements checklists, templates and systems to improve coordination across all our projects.

  • Champions and proactively inspires the adoption of key engineering excellence practices including Reflection, Learning, Code Review, Continuous Integration, and Automation

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors or Masters STEM major (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math), or equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience with a Bachelors STEM major OR 3 years with a Masters as as a Release Manager, Project Manager, QA Lead and/or Developer 
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience as a Release Manager or QA Lead working with technical teams developing software solutions.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated curiosity and ability to understand architectural and technical aspects of Data Platform and DevOps projects, including #BigData and Hadoop based technologies.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good facilitation skills.
  • PMP, or similar detailed knowledge of formal project management processes.

 

Additional Information

Travel Requirements This position requires the incumbent to travel for work 5% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, and reach with hands and arms.   

Position Location:  position and incumbent must be based in Palo Alto, CA.  Visa will not provide relocation assistance in connection with this position.
