Job Description

The Data division is part of the Visa's technology organization. The division is responsible for maintaining Visa's data assets and provides value added products and services to drive innovation for our partners and clients, within Visa and globally. The Data Platform is dedicated to provide systems and services to make data secure, high quality, rich, fast, and easy to use, therefore enabling Visa with the ability to leverage its data asset in an effective and timely manner to maximize technology/business development and differentiate Visa from others in the payment industry.

As a Lead Data Engineer in Data Platform, you will be a part of the Data-as-a-Services development team based in Palo Alto, US where you will be responsible and accountable for designing and architecting a solution to cater to the needs of consumers wanting to consume our data using rest APIs. The solution will be a part of the Data Platform’s Data Serving offerings and enable other data engineers at Visa to quickly develop and productionize their business APIs based on our data assets. This position will report to the Director of Data-as-a-Services development based in Palo Alto.

The ideal candidate has strong technical background and have a good written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate has production experience building modern microservices based solutions, is passionate about performance, testability, and maintainability, cares about quality of code, and loves to learn new technologies.

  • Work on defining, architecting and overseeing the implementation of a solution that abides by the 7-by design principles and enable our users to quickly and efficiently consume our streaming data.

  • Work closely with Product Management, Users as well as data publishers to build an understanding of business and product needs

  • Work closely with the development teams to implement the required solutions following agile practices

  • Work closely with support for building the right solutions for operational excellence.

  • Identify and drive opportunities for automation and standardization of existing processes

  • Establish and enforce development and security guidelines in compliance with the Visa standards

  • Champion the adoption and integration of new technologies, including open source to deliver effective and efficient solutions

  • Work with geographically distributed teams on technical challenges and product improvements.

  • Coach and mentoring team members and help them grow professionally

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 10+ years of work experience with a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of work experience including 6+ years of building API backends for UI & API clients 
  • 2+ years of experience in building and architecting Microservices based solutions
  • 2+ years of experience working with opensource technologies like NGINX, Kubernetes and Docker
  • Familiar with building frontends using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related technologies
  • Technologist with a strong drive for keeping up with the developments in the related areas in the industry, which could be leveraged to enhance current architectures and build durable new ones.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, and interaction skills, including ability to effectively communicate architectural issues and concepts to multiple organization levels and executive management.
  • Strong attitude toward getting things done while maintaining regard for code quality Experience in translating business requirements into sound architectural design
  • Extensive experience using languages like Java, JavaScript, or Golang. Strong on elegant coding, can write very solid prototypes or core components quickly.
  • Experience in building and deploying scalable and resilient products/solutions from the ground-up and owing them in production. Solutions leveraging using open-source technologies like NGINIX, Kubernetes, node.js preferred.
  • Payment industry experience (preferred)

Additional Information

Work Hours 
This position requires the incumbent to be available during core business hours.

Travel Requirements 
This position requires the incumbent to travel for work 5% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements 
This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, and reach with hands and arms.
