Job Description

We are seeking an attorney to support Visa’s management and coordination of regulatory matters across our various business units  and regions in the world.   The position is based in New York and reports to the Vice President who covers this area.

Responsibilities:

The Sr. Counsel will be responsible for supporting the Company’s regulatory and government activities across the globe.  Responsibilities will include:

·       Assisting regional counsel and other colleagues with the development and management of the Company’s short term and long term regulatory strategies

·       Preparation of regulatory submissions and filings

·       Both leading and supporting key regulatory projects, as appropriate, across the organization

·       Monitoring regulatory developments/trends and assessing their impact on the Company

·       Updating senior management on key regulatory developments 

·       Evaluation of business proposals for regulatory compliance

·       Supporting Company outreach to government officials and other policymakers

The role requires significant and active collaboration with other functions within the Company, including Government Engagement and Risk

Qualifications

·       Juris Doctorate degree with strong academic record from an accredited school (admitted to practice law in the United States).   Undergraduate or graduate work in economics or public policy a plus.

·       10+ years of legal experience covering regulatory or policy driven litigation matters, including experience as lead associate.  International experience a plus.

·       Prior in-house experience preferred but not required

·       Exceptional analytical and advocacy skills

·       Excellent written and oral communication skills

·       Demonstrated ability to drive execution in a team environment, integrating legal advice and business knowledge while providing balanced advice regarding risks and benefits

·       Developed business acumen, with ability to understand the company's business interests and anticipate the nature and magnitude of issues that could arise in various settings

·       Practical and proactive problem-solver; confident, mature, calm under fire, with a positive attitude

·       Strong work ethic for a fast-paced environment

·       Multilingual skills (e.g. Spanish) a plus
