Job Description

As Lead Network Engineer of Network Operations, your primary responsibility will be to provide a technical leadership to a diverse global team responsible for the support, and implement/drive improvements to Visa’s global network based from the ITIL framework. You will work closely with the leadership teams from Network Tools, Network Engineering, Network Architecture, Network Systems and Programs, and other cross-functional teams who are managing systems and applications, to drive efficiency and improvements in supporting/managing the network, review/enhancement of processes and implementing new technologies. This position is within Global Infrastructure Network Services (GINS) team, that architects, engineers and operates Visa’s global backbone, datacenter, and access networks. The GINS team is centered around hiring and developing diverse talents who are passionate about building and operating best-in-the-breed infrastructure through technology and innovation.

Job Scope / Responsibilities

  • Drive bottoms-up improvements for Network Operations (including Level-1 & Level-2 Incident management, Change management and Problem management)

  • Provide technical coordination, oversight and leadership for staff and serve as escalation point for complex technical issues.

  • Lead crisis/incident event management incidents

  • Plan, design, implement and provides ongoing support of network systems of high complexity in extranet, commercial and corporate environments to fulfill the business needs.

  • Design appropriate solutions based on environment, create detailed network designs, assess and test new and evolving technologies for performance and cost benefits.

  • Provide third level technical support to the Visa client institutions and to technical teams within Visa to resolve network issues and to support the implementation of new network solutions.

  • Build and maintain relationship with global and virtual teams and third parties on network development or support issues.

  • Lead development, testing and QA functions to ensure that projects are securely delivered and fulfill expectations.

  • Provide highest level of technical consultancy to ensure problem resolution is achieved in the shortest possible timeframe.

  • Work with the Information Security Office to ensure solutions deployed meet Visa Security Requirements and provide technical assistance for investigation and analysis of security alerts.

  • Develop processes and procedures for use by the Network team and third parties in the management of network environments.

  • Develop and position solutions and create a roadmap to effectively gain buy-in from all stakeholders.

  • Mentor technical staff, develop departmental procedures and best practices standards and drive programs to improve effectiveness and efficiency

  • Provide recommendations to management team to increase effectiveness of organization and technology solutions.

  • Customer/partner engagements to represent operational concerns/needs

  • Establish best-practice methodologies for problem resolution in a global, 24 x 7, high volume, high availability, critical production environment, based on metrics-based KPIs.

  • Lead the development of innovative network operations processes and tools from concept to delivery with a focus on new technologies, particularly virtualization, SDN and big data analytics.

  • Support adoption of new technologies and tools, recommend capability improvements to network engineering, and assist in lab deployments for technology trials.

  • Ensure that information security and risk management are embedded within the culture requiring continuous improvement to a complex set of functions to coordinate security and compliance risks related to information systems and assets.

  • Drive coordination, consensus and execution to mitigate cyber risk issues and emerging threats in such a dynamic environment.

  • Lead development of innovation and strategic direction in application of theories and concepts in data network design, configuration, administration, maintenance and/or support.

  • Assist in the development of a strategic roadmap to ensure network operations goals are met.

  • Work closely with Network Tools, Network Engineering, Network Architecture, Network Systems and Programs, and other cross-functional teams who are managing systems and applications to drive efficiency and improvements in supporting/managing the network, review/enhancement of processes and implementing new technologies; and to proactively ensure network operations capabilities are capable of handling emerging and future business requirements.

  • Establish standards and governance in future acquisitions to mitigate risk and maximize network stability.

  • Provide subject matter expertise in interactions with partners and customers, program manage collaboration projects externally and internally.

Qualifications

As the ideal candidate, you will be a proven leader of technical teams in a diverse, fast paced environment. ​The following qualifications are required for the role: ​

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related field. Post graduate degree is a plus.

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years progressively responsible experience.

  • Experience leading a large Software/Tools Development team or Network Engineering / Operations team.

  • Advanced network technical certification (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, JNCIS, JNCIE, or equivalent industry certifications) with expert knowledge of networking equipment and software

  • Experience or background with automation using Ansible and/or Python would be desired.

  • Advanced working knowledge in F5 LTM/GTM, Cisco Nexus switches, Arista switches, Cisco/Juniper routers and Riverbed WAN Optimizers.

  • Experience in using network tools like Solarwinds (creating/maintaining dashboards), Netbrain (creating/maintaining runbooks) and Netscout would be desired.

  • Advanced understanding of TCP/IP network protocols, including common application protocols, MPLS, WAN and LAN.

  • Experience in high-availability networks in load-balanced, n-tier application environments.

  • Experience administering enterprise IP networks in mission-critical, 24x7 production (application hosting and data center) environments.

  • 8 years related experience in infrastructure/network environments and designing, planning, documenting and implementing LANs and WANs using latest technology.

  • Advanced process orientation and exhibited planning, organizational and problem solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills along with effective communication (both written and verbal) skills.

  • Experience leading complex global projects from development through implementation.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex systems and network environment issues.

  • Ability to understand systems from all levels, from the "big picture" enterprise-level view to the low level technical view.

  • Ability to write technical design and build documentations for all aspects of a technical infrastructure.

  • Ability to represent technical and business issues and solutions to multiple levels internally and externally to support strategic organizational plans.

  • Demonstrate ability to work in a complex organization to determine business and customer needs, providing the best solution to meet those needs.

  • Good process orientation and ability to clarify objectives, evaluate options, consider implications, assess risks, and make key decisions.

  • ITIL certification preferred with good understanding of change, incident and problem management process

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and commitments in an environment that requires multitasking among concurrent projects.

  • Good interpersonal and facilitation skills along with effective communication (both written and verbal) skills.

  • Willing to work as a team and share responsibilities where needed

  • Ability to convey network concepts and issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
