Job Description

Visa has the world’s largest consumer payment transaction data set.  We see data on over 100 billion transactions per year from all over the world. Visa Predictive Models (VPM) develops and maintains predictive models to primarily support Visa Global Data Products, Risk and Identity Products, and Cardinal Commerce. Using mostly VisaNet data and leveraging Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), our model scores help Visa clients all over the world for fraud defense, identity verification, smart marketing, credit underwriting and etc. Through our models and services, VPM fuels the growth of Visa clients, generates and diversifies revenues for VISA, and we greatly improve Visa Card customer experience.

 

As technology is making unprecedentedly fast progress, we need to continuously adopt and leverage the latest advancement in AI and ML tools to stay competitive in the marketplace. In addition, as more big data is collected and becoming available, we need to continuously incorporate new external data to build better models and eventually providing a better service and experience to our clients and consumers.

Reporting to Head of the New Data and New Tools team, the Sr. Manager of Data Science will be responsible for:

  • Delivering the execution of the agenda of new data and new tools

  • Leveraging data science to evaluate the incremental value of new data sources and making recommendation to Visa

  • Evaluating new AI and ML technologies and tools and making recommendations

  • Interacting with external vendors

  • Collaborating with internal partners to improve the new data and tool evaluation process

  • Being the go to subject matter expert for new data and AI and ML tools

  • Training the broad data scientist group on new data and new tools

  • Conducting R&D to identify opportunities in the modeling space, and to monetize the opportunities

  • Partnering with our Analytics and Model team to identify trends in our projects that indicate potential for new models

  • Providing input to the Product and Technology teams who are building out the roadmap for our technical capabilities in building and deploying models

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 4 years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or equivalent
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or
  • 6-8 years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience with a PhD
  • 2+ years of experience with Big Data
  • Prior experience in deep artificial neural network, RNN, CNN, natural language processing or graph database analytics are desirable
  • Prior experience in new data are desirable
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and apply new techniques
  • Must be a team-player and capable of handling multi-tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent business writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • Excellent project management skills

 Technical Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Python programming language

  • Proficiency in Python data analysis, modeling building and visualization libraries

  • Proficiency with SQL and Hadoop, Hive, Impala

  • Prior experience with Spark and MLlib is a plus

  • Prior experience with Cloud Computing (e.g. AWS) is a plus

  • Experience with SAS is a plus but not required

Additional Information

Work Hours:

This position requires the incumbent to be available during core business hours

Travel Requirements: 

This position requires the incumbent to travel for work less than 5% of the time

Mental/Physical Requirements:

This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, reach with hands and arms, and bend or lift up to 25 pounds.
