Job Description

The Director, Technology Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for leading the up-front planning and inception of new large-scale strategic technology initiatives that support the overall DDP strategic plan.  This includes formalizing scope, roadmaps, secure funding, establishing governance, and most critically implementing the Agile Project and Program processes necessary to transition the program into a regular and efficient release cadence.  A significant amount of coordination and collaboration across product/business, technology, and support organizations will be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Highly experienced in defining/structuring new programs and projects to ensure clear objectives, clear stakeholder roles, adherence to Visa project/program methodologies, and an overall execution plan

  • Provide program management, technical integration, and cross-functional execution of large-scale, high visibility strategic program initiatives.

  • Partner with key Technology and cross-functional stakeholders to drive key program activities:

    • Identify and track program risks & issues

    • Develop plans across DDP functional areas

    • Provide executive management with program updates

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and oversight to the cross-functional team of project leads. Provide project teams with expertise, direction, motivation, and encouragement.

  • Technical acumen to capture, communicate and drive issues/blockers/risks to resolution

  • Managing effective Agile Ceremonies and tracking change controls

  • Key management skills:

    • Strong Communication: Clear and concise verbal and written skills

    • Meeting facilitation

    • Team leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution

    • MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project, Visio (Required)

    • Manage teams in a matrixed geographically disperse environment

  • Strong Coordination to interface with other technology and business teams to ensure projects adhere to Security, Sourcing, Networking, Intellectual Property and other Visa processes.

  • Ability to collaborate with business and technology subject matter experts in product ideation to help refine requirements/scope and create a viable program/project including accurate and inclusive estimates, integrated plans, and securing funding approvals.

  • Demonstrate skills in conflict management and negotiation to achieve project goals and develop trust with stakeholders.

  • Manage through influence, but without direct management authority.  Use capabilities to influence customers and stakeholders, and properly manage divergent expectations.

Qualifications

Basic

  • Bachelor degree in a technical field, such as Business Information Technology or Management in Information Systems or Computer Science or Computer Engineering (Preferred)

Preferred Skills
  • MBA or other related advanced degree (Preferred)

  • Certifications (at least one Preferred): PMP, CSM

  • Experience: Professionally mature delivery technical project/release manager with hands-on continuous experience for at least the past 5 years managing technically complex, cross-organizational, multi-stakeholder programs or activities.

  • 5-7 years progressively more responsible experience in directly relevant Project and Program roles in an agile environment.

  • Experience working with both engineering/technical teams and product/business teams that are transitioning from Waterfall to Scrum (not just mature Agile teams)

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.  In particular, a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical and business issues and solutions to multiple organizational levels internally and externally as needed.

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to think strategically.

  • Strong leadership qualities and organizational skills as well as the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, assignments, and roles.

  • Strong process orientation and a solid understanding of project management techniques, methodologies, and best practices.
