Job Description

As a Software Engineer with TCS, you will work with technical writers across our global organization to develop, maintain, and support the systems, services, and servers used to create and deliver technical documentation at Visa.

Through this challenging job, you'll gain experience collaborating with various parts of the business in understanding requirements for system enhancements, identifying areas of improvement, and implementing changes to systems or processes.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with technical staff inside and outside of TCS, and with TCS technical writers, to define and implement requirements for the authoring and publishing systems.

  • Design, implement and maintain the latest department tools.

  • Evaluate options and provide recommendations on scope and scale of effort required to develop solutions.

  • Create design documents, code, unit/functional test, document and implement new programs and subprograms, as well as enhancements, modifications, and corrections to existing software.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships across functional areas in order to provide superior product support.

  • Support and deliver on resulting initiatives from the Technical Communications Services (TCS) long-term strategy.

  • Work to ensure technology decisions are "business" driven.

  • Suggest and cultivate ideas on the extension of the current systems to new solutions and services.

  • Must be able to understand the positioning of a solution within the company and to build consensus to effectively gain buy-in from all participants.

  • Identify opportunities for further enhancements and refinements to standards, processes and systems.

  • Provide rotational on-call support as needed.

  • Monitor and resolve security issues related to TCS servers, tools and environment.

  • Research on commonly encountered issues and recommend workarounds.

  • Develop DITA/XML and HTML stylesheet updates and releases based on writer feedback.

  • Maintain TCS software and tools in the form of support, troubleshooting, bug fixes and other improvements.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to a global team of writers.

  • Complete and maintain builds in production and development environments.

  • Write and maintain design, systems, and operations documents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related technology-focused field.

  • 2+ years of overall software development experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly driven, enthusiastic, eager, collaborative, and resourceful.

  • Comfortable working in a matrixed management role.

  • Flexible to attend meetings outside of normal business hours on a regular basis.

  • Strong customer service, analytical, research, interpersonal and problem solving skills.

  • Strong ability to collaborate with multicultural teams across the globe.

  • Adaptability is a must, including the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

  • Strong problem determination skills and ability to resolve critical issues for complex systems under tight timeframes in a distributed enterprise set-up.

  • Ability to multi task and handle multiple competing priorities with minimal direction from management. Should possess excellent planning and organizational skills.

  • Ability to understand systems from all levels, from the "big picture" enterprise-level view to the low-level technical view.

  • Experience working on enterprise systems with demonstrable grasp of maintainability, performance and scalability.

  • Familiar with document authoring and XML editing tools (Oxygen), document repositories (SDL Tridion Docs), dynamic publications solutions (Antidot FluidTopics), and terminology management solutions (Acrolinx). (preferred)

Technical Communications Services (TCS) is responsible for most of Visa’s technical information serving both technology and business departments. With team members in California, Colorado, and Singapore, we support internal Visa teams and external Visa clients, delivering over 300 technical communications solutions each year including user guides, implementation guides, web services guides, online help systems, SharePoint solutions, operational and departmental procedures, release notes and developer Guides, API and SDK reference materials and system process flows.
