Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager of Corporate Communications will be responsible for supporting the execution of external and internal communications within Canada to enhance Visa’s reputation and image with business, industry, and trade media and stakeholders, including financial institutions, merchants, consumers and employees.

This position is located in Toronto and will report to the Director of Corporate Communications for Visa Canada. This individual will work collaboratively with Visa’s Global Communications team to help develop local strategies and execute a range of activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Director of Corporate Communications on all external and internal communications activities with a focus on Product and Marketing initiatives.

  • Communications support includes, but is not limited to, product launches and communications strategies; messaging and positioning; influencer engagement; proactive media relations; client and employee communications.

  • Partner with Marketing to amplify sponsorships with media and other external stakeholders and collaborate on how to do so internally.

  • Work hand in hand with the Director of Corporate Communications to enhance Visa Canada’s reputation as a great place to work in addition to supporting the internal communication strategy, including the delivery of events to drive employee engagement, champion a new culture and support the organization’s business objectives.

  • Help drive Visa Canada’s thought leadership agenda through the development of new tactics, ideas and approaches to reach our core audiences.

  • Lead key team infrastructure/activities including monitoring Canadian media and competitors and distributing news clips daily, managing speaking and event calendar, clearing speaking opportunities and materials according to established guidelines, maintaining media lists, opening and maintaining PO’s.

  • Help manage external PR agency including managing weekly meetings, agenda and follow ups, and other assignments as needed.

  • Responsible for knowing and understanding the hot issues in the industry and business, monitoring industry news, understanding the nuances of the political and regulatory landscape, identifying emerging issues, and developing and maintaining relationships with media and other stakeholders.

  • Support the social strategy and help develop content for use across Visa’s social media, website, intranet and other internal channels

     

 

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors/Degree in Communications/Public Relations, English, Journalism, or equivalent experience; PR certificate/diploma preferred. Minimum of 5-7 years progressively responsible experience in public relations, with either an agency or corporation.

  • Experience in developing strategic employee communications planning and delivery.

  • Experience in working with media and a solid understanding of what makes compelling content for print and broadcast media coverage.

  • Experience working in a highly collaborative cross-functional environment, making quick decisions and driving results with cross-functional / cross-regional teams.

  • Experience blending traditional communications tactics with social media.

  • Proven expertise in drafting and editing communications materials.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Outstanding problem solving skills.

  • Client service orientation that seeks to efficiently and effectively deliver quality results. Skills will include: analysis, planning, prioritization and direction setting.

  • Ability to achieve results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, often on short deadlines.

  • Experience managing business issues and navigating/synthesizing various viewpoints.

  • Ability to provide counsel to business and senior leadership.

  • Solid organizational skills and ability to maintain documents and calendars for senior management.

  • Other duties as assigned.  Some evening and weekend work required as driven by issues.
