Job Description

The Senior Director will join the Products and Innovation Risk organization responsible for developing and executing against the needs of their business partner(s). This role is collaborative, execution-oriented and requires practical and strategic understanding of payments, Visa and our business partners and demonstrated experience bringing products to market. The position must work collaboratively with cross-functional and geographically diverse teams to drive consensus, and develop and execute against a common plan. This role will report directly to the Vice President Products and Innovation Risk and will partner with and be the main point of contact for one or more of the following: Innovation and Design, Digital Partnerships and Ventures, Acceptance Solutions, Consumer Payment Solutions, Debit Processing Solutions, Business to Business Solutions, Payment Products and Platforms, and Visa Consulting and Analytics. In addition, there may be opportunities to partner with non-Product organizations such as marketing or CSS to lead risk assessments as well.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in the payments industry, ideally in processing and/or product strategy, or product management. The candidate must be a creative problem solver who works well in a highly collaborative environment, can bring structure to ideation teams, and has an ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization. The candidate must also be able to demonstrate over time key product expertise to not only the Audit, Risk, and Public Policy organization but also to key stakeholders around the organization. The candidate should be viewed as a key extension of not only the product organization but also key stakeholders across the organization.

The position will be based in Foster City, CA but the individual will spend time in both Foster City and San Francisco, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Be the core team member and central coordination point for all key initiatives within the assigned division, providing Visa product, payment and technical expertise as well as industry knowledge to help execute on all deliverables, while ensuring robust risk and security controls are in place.

  • Proactively engage with external strategic and innovative partners to ensure Visa continues to be perceived as a global industry leader in managing key business and systems security across the payments ecosystem; continue deepening of current payment knowledge and business relationships.

  • Facilitate cross functional socialization of product initiatives with key stakeholders. Be able to be voice of product in those conversations to communicate key product use cases, key problems that are being solved, and provide an assessment of key initial risk considerations. Be an expert and evangelist for the products and innovations of the business partner.  Be able to discuss in detail all product and platform components from a business/product and a risk perspective. 

  • Develop a key understanding of stakeholder concerns and commonly posed questions to bring that level of expertise to Product owners. Be able to quickly identify key stakeholder impacts to assess various risks.

  • Provide challenge to and/or modifications to product constructs, if they create incremental risk to Visa. Identify and validate solutions that can be deployed to resolve execution issue/risk.

  • Work with key product partners to execute New Business Initiative Assessment (NBIAs) risk assessments and ensure key risks are identified with proper mitigation and controls are in place. Ensure key risk assessments are completed prior to launch and any key risks not mitigated are escalated. Ensure open risks, post launch, are monitored and reviewed by both the Enterprise Risk Management team and the product organization.

  • Participate in regular staff meetings for assigned partners, including strategy, roadmap review and planning sessions, and product ideation reviews.

  • Work with other Product organizations, as necessary, to ensure appropriate risk partner coverage and to broaden individual overall product knowledge.

Additional Responsibilities – Products and Innovation Risk Organization

  • Escalate key concerns to Product Executives and to Vice Chairman, Audit, Risk and Public Policy, while identifying potential mitigations and solutions.

  • Present and participate in bi-weekly roundtable with Risk Leadership Team and Vice Chairman, Audit, Risk & Public Policy demonstrating key product knowledge and expertise.

  • Provide and present product subject matter expertise to the Audit, Risk, and Public Policy organization on key Initiatives related to your assigned Product organization.

  • Provide Product overviews to regional risk managers with key considerations to ensure regional risk managers are able to effectively speak to clients about these Initiatives. Provide the necessary materials to region risk managers. Work closely with regions to identify the key Initiative overviews required.

  • Build relationships and gain exposure to Risk Leadership team through by presenting at Leadership teams to demonstrate key domain expertise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred
  • 15+ years of relevant Visa Inc. and payments/industry experience; global client business, processing, and risk experience a plus.  

  • Proven history of managing products through phases of a product’s lifecycle – from concept through management and ultimately sunset

  • Strong understanding of financial services landscape and regulatory environment

  • Strategic thinker who can balance big picture strategy and detailed, flawless execution

  • Understanding of VisaNet, payments landscape and ability to translate product strategy into executable plans

  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to drive consensus in cross-regional and cross-functional teams.

  • Flexible and proactive trouble-shooting capabilities with the ability to manage diverse groups organized within different organizational reporting lines

  • Process-oriented problem solver who can adapt within a multi-tasking environment and simultaneously manage multiple issues and projects with limited resources

  • High attention to detail and quality for all work products

  • Hands-on, entrepreneurial and flexible to take broad guidance from management and execute plan of action to drive results

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to present to different audiences.

  • Strategic and analytical thinker who challenges status quo and looks for creative solutions to problems

  • History of success with internal and external client facing roles, as well as product management and platform services development
